Ranking the Open Coaching Jobs

Richt is not in my top 3 but he is a very solid coach and I would happily welcome him.

Crazy that all these jobs are open by Halloween

if you are a school like UVA you almost dont want to be fire London because of all the competition for coaches in that mid to lower tier
I thought this would be a quiet year for head coaching job searches. UGA and even Texas might still be looking for a coach. Hopefully not. If like us to have our pick of the litter.

Yes, but soon to be

1. SC
2. UGA
3. Miami
Yeah. Closer than some think though. I know Richt gets a ton of **** but if UGA doesn't make the right hire they are gonna fall off fast.

Although he didn't win a chip he has kept them relevant for 15 years and has 9 ten win seasons
Yeah he hasn't won the big games but Georgia isn't really the beast some people make them out to be. Georgia is overrated when it comes to recruiting and when you have so many schools able to dip into the area, the wrong coaching hire will send them down fast.

With the other jobs opening up, with some additional to come, we'll get Butch by default, because he'll be the only one left after BOT takes its time..

Hmmm I would agree unless uga fires richt. I think james would hire Richt before butch.

I like Richt a lot but I'd rather butch obviously

Just like Golden, Richt has a 6-7 year also.

Nick Saban has multiple 6-6 seasons and a 7-6 season. Gary Patterson has 4-8, 6-6, and 7-6 seasons. Does that mean they're just like Golden too?

Yes, Saban had a couple 6-6 years in his first stint at Michigan State. He never was .500 with LSU or Alabama. I consider Georgia job the same as those two. Also, Richt had a losing season after ten years on the job, not in the beginning. There is a big difference.

Since when is winning 9 games a year acceptable? This is Georgia, not Rutgers or Temple. A great coach at Georgia should win national titles. They have a better recruiting base than anyone in the SEC in my opinion. They also play in the weak SEC East. That division is the same as the ACC. What Georgia is doing now should be expected with an average coach. Any real coach would win the SEC east every year that Florida doesn't.

1. Over his tenure Richt averaged 10 wins a season
2. Who elevated the standards of UGA football? Mark Richt. He showed the world that UGA should be a consistent top ten team.
3. In their history, UGA has two titles (1980 & 1954).
4. Mark Richt has the highest winning % of any UGA coach in the past 95 years. Truly, he is the winningest UGA coach since Herman Stegman and Glenn "Pop" Warner both coached less than 30 games.
5. Vince Dooley (2nd winningest SEC coach at the time of his retirement) won the SEC East 6 out of 24 years (3 ties and 3 outright). That puts him at 25%. Mark Richt has won the SEC East 6 out of 15 years (3 ties and 3 outright). That puts him at 40%. Before Richt arrived, UGA had not won a division title since 1992.

I agree that Mark Richt has not gotten the job done (winning a ring) but he has elevated the UGA program and their standard for achievement. People overlook his work because he does not have a ring. Richt greatly impacted UGA's brand and national perception. Know your history my man.

When Vince Dooley was the coach at Gawga there was no SEC East. He won the whole **** SEC outright 6 out of 24 years. That means he was better than bama, florida, and LSU every 4 years. Did Richt hold up to that same standard???????

**** No!!!!!

I don't think anyone is saying Richt is up there with Saban and Patterson. He just is t down there with Golden and Cristobal like some are making him out to be. Guy is a solid coach. We could do better.....we could do a **** of a lot worse.

The SEC was also not the powerhouse it was back when Dooley was coaching.

Dooley won one ring in 24 years (in his 18th year). If you examine the first 15 years of Dooley vs. Richt, Richt has a had a better winning % and both had 0 rings by year 15.

Yes the SEC is much stronger than it was 30 years ago. Georgia is also less powerful in the SEC than it was back then. I blame part of that on Richt.

Again my main point is that a top notch coach should win national titles at Georgia. It shouldn't be much harder to win a national championship at Georgia than it is at Miami.

agreed. I don't have a problem with Uga parting ways with him after 15 years. IMO, the job is more attractive now than when richt took it in 2001.

In comparison, his resume looks better than Jimmy Johnsons did in 84. Hahaha That guy barely had a winning record at Oklahoma State.
