How do you feel our position groups stack up in conference and nationally?

QB: TBD
WR: 1st/2nd in conference (If Malcolm Lewis and Scott both play to their talent, I'll take our group), top 15 nationally.

RB: 2nd in conference (Duke and a whole lot of question marks: Yearby is a bonafide stud, but coming off major injury, Gus continues to show flashes, and Tucker is very interesting)... Duke is a top 10 running back, but the unit as whole somewhere in the 20's.

OL: 3rd in conference (Flowers is a first-rounder and Feliciano is excellent, but RT makes me nervous and our center play has been solid but unremarkable), top 25 nationally.

TE: 3rd/4th in conference (Walford is slightly above average, Dobard had an excellent spring and shows great promise, and Beau has been more talk than walk so far), Top 30 nationally.

DL: 4th in conference (AQM, McCord are going to be very good by the end of the year, Kamalu is a talented kid that had an excellent spring, Earl Moore and Corey King have no business in a UM DL 2-deep, Chad Thomas is the best DE prospect we've had in many years, Pierre is inconsistent, Hamilton is the wildcard) Top 40 nationally (Thomas may change this to top 20 nationally if his body can take the beating).

LB: 2nd/3rd in conference (Perryman is great when attacking downhill, but still busts assignments more than you'd like for a leader of the D, Kirby and Figueroa have potential for days but more needs to be seen, Grace is undersized but had a very good spring, Armbrister is middling, Owens and Young are super talented but there is going to be some learning curve) Top 30 nationally but could end up much higher.

DB: 1st/2nd in conference (Howard is very good, hoping he takes the next step to elite, Gunter is above average, Crawford is good depth, Burns is a 1st day pick in the making, Bush busts coverages at an alarming rate but no denying the talent, Crawford is going to be excellent in run support, Carter has had some problems picking up the scheme but he seemed to be turning a corner in the spring, and Jenkins is a solid player. Hester has a ton of potential. Top 15 nationally with a chance to be top 10.

I see a Defense with increased athleticism all over the field, another year of experience, and an influx of some truly talented freshman. No reason this should not be a top 40 unit this year. Offense has playmakers all over the field, a legit Heisman candidate running back, the deepest wr corps we've had in a decade, and solid OL. All comes down to QB.

Thoughts?

WR- lots of talent no question, but I need to see more production to label them 1 or 2 in the conference. If Scott can stay out if trouble, herb becomes more consistent, and Dorsett puts it all together... We can be special! Already seen what coley brings. Top 5

RB- easy #1 we have the DUKE of MIAMI and his protégé. Nuff said

TE- Walford and Sandland could be a nice duo. Can't wait to see DOBARD! Id say top 3 or 4

OL- #6 Flowers is our only stud. feliciano is good. McDermott is serviceable and the other 2 are unknowns. Potential to be a solid unit

DEFENSE as a whole: #12 No one on the DL is great. Some guys are serviceable.. Some guys have yet to assert themselves and showcase their talents.

DP is DP Nuff said. Figs is a player in the making! The others are unknown, but certainly talented!

DB: Tracy is stud, but the rest left a lot to be desired. WE have some good depth and talent but we haven't seen much production outside of Tracy. Gunter played decent last year. Bush needs to rebound and Jenkins needs to learn how to cover.

If we had a simpler 4-3 scheme the talents would have revealed themselves by now, but that is a conversation for another day.

I have no idea what everyone else looks like in the conference at each of the position groups that you comment on. So I could not rank them against our conference or the rest of the nation. I could look up class rankings, but I'm not going to do that.

What I can say is that we have really good talent with good depth at WR, DE, DB, LB, and RB. Our offensive line has yet to perform as a unit to the potential that we see in the individual parts, but I hold out hope because I have not heard a lot of talk about rotating and shuffling along the OL this Spring, and I do not believe that we have any major injuries. QB is really up in the air because KO looked really out of sorts for his first big showing, and we have no idea whether Kaaya is going to light it up or mess his pants when the lights come on. Praying one of them or even Rozier will be poised enough to do more than just hand the ball off.

I do believe we have the players in place - perhaps for the first time since Golden arrived - to do what Golden wants to do on defense. I'm anxious to see if better talent at DL, LB, and DB will make a significant difference in our production on defense using the same scheme. Admittedly, I have been underwhelmed with what I have seen in the recent past.

So umfire says we have a top 2 defense collectively and M3N says 12th...

While I believe Fire's right about the collective level of talent, M3 is closer to the truth due to production....

How did you come up with these arbitrary rankings? Do you have a full list of your national and conference rankings at each position?

On paper is one thing but then mix in Mark D into the equation and take your ranking and at least double the number to get real number

Can i get a list of the schools in this conference. That you have ranked ahead of us at each position?

Still got a DCoordinator who isn't in the top 60.

Head Coach?

Upon reflection, this is just depressing.

Yall are setting yourselves up for disappointment...the Swiss Cheese D will continue to ***** us until I see something that will lead me to believe otherwise

Chad Thomas may be the best DE prospect we have had in years, but actually expecting him to immediately contribute in this system is pure naivety.

I don't get the Earl Moore hate. He was stealing snaps from Porter and Renfrow towards the end of 2013.

He can rush the passer. We can use him in that capacity on passing downs along with Tyriq, AQM and Kamalu.

He needs to get really, really strong before he can contribute effectively. Saw him a couple days go. He's a legit 5'11, maybe 6'0.

True. He will be inserted into the predictable pass-rush package where we stunt a guy inside and the other outside. It will pay dividends just like it did last year.

Luckily he won't be asked to do too much. Just needs to contribute along with Wyche and Heurtelou at the nose.

IDK about conference/nationally, but I'd rank them in order of confidence I have as:

Feel good about
DB
WR
TE

Feel optimistic about
RB
OL/LB/DE all about the same

Worried about
K

Borderline suicidal about
QB
DT

Those two on the bottom being on the bottom is the reason Miami football has sucked for a long time now. Can't win without being good at those spots.
