I can't speak to all of Thrill's commentary, but he is actually only half correct on this.

This has been a legend for decades.

The facts:
- ONLY children of former Bear Bryant players are eligible
- Bryant established the private scholarship fund personally in the 70s
- It's payout is limited to only partial tuition and in full only if former player has died
- NCAA has consistently ruled this very "illegal" for any school to copy the concept and it will sunset when the last child of a former Bryant player attends Bama

That explanation makes sense, since this would be highly a illegal (outside the SEC) inducement. As a UM faculty, my kids get free UM tuition because we make considerable financial sacrifices to stay in academics v private practice.

100% agree outside SEC. In SEC, hey whatever.

Good on you as faculty. Great employment benefit for your children. Is it tuition only or includes room and board.

The one thing I took from Randall - was how JJ - and his staff - had them holding each other accountable. A player screwed up - he was given nothing but ration of crap and derision until the next game and he made up for it.

I noted that Butch also coached under JJ, and he too, had his players holding each other accountable - and if the narratives are true - there were some real fights going on - and you can even hear Ed Reed (played under Butch) repeat the same thing.

The coach sets the tone, sets the parameters, and that's the difference between what we had then, and what we have now.
