Quick mention about Darrell Jackson

Potentially our next Gerald Willis? Haven’t had a dominate DT since G Will back in 2018, if D Jackson can resemble anything Willis did for us I can see our defense easily taking the next level
Two completely different players. Willis was a 3 tech who did his work beating guards with quickness and shooting gaps to make plays behind the line. Jackson is a 1 technique which means he plays the spot between the center and guard. His job is mostly to not be moved off his spot and occupy multiple blockers. He'll likely be responsible for two gaps (center/guard and guard/tackle) so he won't be rushing into the backfield often. He's the kind of guy who can dominate a game and not register any stats.

Agree
Him and Willis are different types but I think what makes Jackson potentially special, especially under this regime, is that he can penetrate (pause) too if needed. He has the feet and is slippery enough to give guards trouble in that fashion as well if he is ever asked to slant or penetrate through a gap. He isn’t a big throw away 2 down space eater with no mobility or athleticism that can’t move (I know you are not saying he is, just commenting). He really has that type of ability IMO.

Being reported that he’s actually 6’6 and up to 320 now. Yall have complained about the lack of size so I thought I would mention it. Expect him to be a space eater at that size. Not a 3T.
Might be the biggest D Lineman we ever had except Wilfork.

DJack will be used like Derrick brown was for auburn in 2019-2020 for Steele. Not saying he’ll be nearly as dominant but he has similar tools and size

Not just that but I believe we now have 3 guys who can play that role. Jordan moving to a rotational guy is going to be huge. He’s never had the biggest tank.

Can I get a Big Vince Wilfork comp?
Sapp and Vince are the best DT's I've seen here since becoming a fan in 91. Vince is about 6'2 (shorter) and all belly in comparison to Jackson. I'm excited to see Jackson and this years defense in general. Go Canes.

Who thought he was going to be playing 3-Tech? Lol

He was a 2-gap lineman at Maryland & was getting 1st team reps as a TF just due to his sheer size & natural ability.

What makes him so special & separates him from the typical NT, is that he’s not just some fat bowling ball that can’t move & he has actual pass rushing ability & very quick nimble feet all while carrying his weight very well. His 320 will look like 290.

Kid has potential to be a dominant run defender & incredibly disruptive interior pass rusher.

Definitely a 3-down lineman IMO.
You catch his statement in his interview where he said his wingspan is longer than Rousseau's?

Starting and making an impact as a freshman in the trenches is not very common.
