Earl Campbell. Got to watch him in person in the old Astrodome back when I was little. The man was massive, could tote. The rock with the best of them, and would steam roll DB’s and LB’s like their were paper machete.

I wish I was old enough to have witness Campbell, Brown, Payton and ****erson in their absolute primes, man. Those aforementioned players are the definition of elite. I'm not talking about a couple of seasons of being elite, I'm talking personified throughout their whole careers. The word elite has been so watered down, imo. I'm old enough to have witness players like J Rice, where the entire defense was worried about him. I'm old enough to have witness Deion literally have the whole side of the field on lock and no QB dare throw his way. I'm old enough to have witness MJ and teams setting rules to defend him. I've witness a lot, a lot of great players, a lot of good players, but there's few I can call elite...ones that completely elevated their teammate's and their opposition's level of play b/c of their abilities. Ones that are on the Mt Rushmore of their sport or their position. Man, it's so rare, but we use that term so loosely now.

Just my opinion.

The definition of ELITE is very simple and straightforward

You only reach ELITE status when even the GREAT ones look up to you as being better or as one of the very best to have ever played.

That is rare indeed. That can only be said about very few players in any sport.

I agree with R on this one.

We've ALL seen great players, seeing an ELITE one is an altogether different experience. It's not just good, or great, its awe inspiring

What is elite to my CIS's family.
Is our running back Elite, IYO.

OR on the verge of being elite....

I do believe Dallas is the best all around back at DA U in years .
But do we truly have a RB1 or RB2 that can pick up a 4th &1 or house it at any moment.
In my opinion, a elite back has Elite vision or power to move a pile.
We should defer to Broke on this...

Miller had the 4th most yds in a season ever for a Miami RB - behind McGahee, Duke, and Edge.

"Decent" is a major understatement.

I think if you say Miller wasn't elite at Miami, you couldn't say Gore was elite here either.

Sure I can.

Were Allen Hurns and Leonard Hankerson elite? (#1 and #2 for most receiving yards in a single season by a Hurricane)

Miller was an exceptional talent and was on his way to becoming elite, but he left for the NFL after having a standout Redshirt Sophomore year. He would disappear at times during games and rarely carried the team on his back.

I thought Lingard was elite before his injury. I think Dallas might be versatile but not elite. Duke J. would be elite behind McGahee's O line.

Duke Johnson had a great oline with at least 5 nfl starters in the league in Brandon Linder, ereck flowers, seantrel Henderson, Jon feliciano ,Danny isadora

"Elite" has a wide range of interpretations, so I'm not at all saying you're wrong if you think Miller isn't "elite"

My points would be:

- Miller's Soph, Hankerson's Sr., and Hurns Sr. season were all great seasons - much better than "decent".
- I also give more credit to Miller for showing out a younger age than Hankerson & Hurns - it's a sliding scale
- I don't knock Miller for leaving after his Soph year, just like I wouldn't knock McGahee for leaving after his Soph year.

Miller = 2 years, 1,918 yds, 5.7 ypc, 15 TD's, 9 100 yd games. Best season = 1,272 yds
Gore = 3 years, 1,975 yds, 5.7 ypc, 17 TD's, 8 100 yd games. Best season = 945 yds

Of course Gore was the better pro, and Gore would've put up way better numbers if it weren't for the ACL's - no question.

But in terms of what they actually did in just their college career - I think Miller & Gore were very similar.

IMO - I think you'd have to consider both elite, or neither elite (in terms of their college careers).

Elite is established in the trenches than the QB. That’s what make a team Elite. You have to have an OLine and a DLine that consistently cause havoc. The skilled players, in my opinion, are great pieces, but they aren’t what makes a team Elite.
Then we wont be elite. Miami is never going to be at the top in recruiting o line and d line because we just dont produce them locally. We gotta do it our way

Who got shoved over onto Duke's leg.

Question Can Shaq become elite this season?
I say do to our defense system attacking and sometime guessing the wrong gap, Shaq can become elite run stopper this season.

you want "elite" ? here ya go.

You always come up with the best gifs.I tip my hat to you

Dj,lo and cam could very well become elite.like above poster said oline has to open some lanes for them.if qb and oline play improves with our players at the skilled position the canes would come close to being unstoppable.with this defense if the offense comes around #6 or more will come.

If we get a 1 tech that controls the double team, he can have great production.

His limited lateral athleticism and good but not elite instincts will limit him.

Shaq has great attributes that can wreak havoc when used properly. I like how he attacks the qb. I think we would be better served blitzing him more instead of the safety so much.

But he is not the type of linebacker who just dominates a game sideline to sideline.

He would have to make a HUGE jump in instincts and technique/ footwork to be truly elite, even for a college player.

I hope to be proven wrong. I am expecting a big farewell season from Shaq and look forward to him dominating the opposition.

Don’t see Dj as an elite pure running back. I think he can be very, very good if he plays a little lighter like 2017. Has some good moves and runs hard but is not a burner.

He can be an impact player if used properly though. He needs to be lined up in the slot more and motioned in 20 or 21 personnel. He should get lots of screens and swings as well.

One of Richt’s biggest failures as oc was not using all of Dj’s tools to manufacture yardage in a quick passing game.

Elite RBs at UM are these Guys...
Anderson
Edge
Bratton
Gore
Mcgahee
Portis
Duke
McGuire
Then you have Guys a step below...
Miller
Bentley
Highsmith
Conley
James Jackson

After being let go from Georgia cmr was burned out didn't have that fire/passion to coach.it showed itself on game day he never adjusted his game plan around the playmakers.not going to bash cmr ,he should've taken some time away from coaching to reboot himself.class act how he left and the talent level is better now than when he took over.
