Question: What is elite to my CIS's family and.......

El, you know I respect your opinion, and Cam is a bad dude; love his upside - but DJ Dallas is better than he showed last year. Don’t be surprised if he’s RB1 throughout season.
I would Be very surprised if he’s number 1 throughout the season . He’s going to have to improve a lot because from the FSU game on outside of duke(2 costly fumbles in the only good game rushing wise he had the final 8 games of the season) he was pretty **** bad.

Since the OP's question was specifically about our UM running backs, I see the following, in no specific order, as the 5 best backs that have come through The U over the years:

Edgerrin James
Frank Gore
Alonzo Highsmith
Willis McGahee
Clinton Portis

You can argue ad infinitum about quality of offensive lines, other offensive weapons, the definition of "elite" etc...I think our current RBs are good to very good, but none are a danger to break into the top 5 at the moment....

I think we assign the term elite way too often.

There’s a small difference between elite & great.

I believe someone who’s elite is a player that can put the team on its back or will a team to victory by individual play.

We don’t have elite players right now, imo. We have very good players that will have the potential to be pro bowlers.

I think when we had Reed, regardless of how low he was rated, by the time of his Jr year, there was no doubt he would be a future HOFer. Same w Andre, McGahee, Gore, Shockey, Beason, Morgan, Winslow,Taylor, Wilfork. Those guys were just better than everyone else on the field. Of course we know Shockey’s, Winslow’s, Beason’s and of course, McGahee’s career potential were cut short by knee injuries, and even Frank’s true potential was robbed by knee injuries, but even then all those guys still made pro bowls at the next level, despite. Why? They were just that good. They were elite.

In the sports world, I consider Brady elite and Rodgers great. I consider MJ elite, and Barkley great. I consider Barry Sanders elite and Thurman Thomas great. I consider Jerry Rice elite and Tim Brown great. I consider Ray Lewis elite and Brian Urlacher great.

It’s a subtle difference between the two. Again, our team is full of good players. I think our team has a couple of future pro bowlers on it, one being DJ b/c of his utility, but I can’t classify any as elite and that’s the difference between the Canes of yesteryear v. Canes of today.

The jury is still out on Lo right now, so I won’t hold him hostage by such standards until we see him play a meaningful game. I think he has the potential to be elite.

Uh no..... frank gore(come on now), Damien berry, greg cooper, homer walton, yearby all before Dallas
LOL Brock last 15 year and I know Gore family
I not claiming to being a expect on this subject

Dallas is elite all around and yes I include being a teammates...

Sorry I did miss Walton but Walton was always hurt.

Elite is an overused term like swag. It equals Gaylord Fockers 9th place ribbon today.

There are very few elite people in most cases. Elite are the men/woman. That when it is all said and done. Are argued as the GOAT when they're done.

I think he's a great player, Idk if I can say it any clearly.

And he did great last year considering the circumstances, but I believe Cam & Lo have higher upsides as pure RB's, DJ is better as a Swiss Army knife, being multiple positions that's the distinction.

As far as him being RB1 I wouldn't be shocked at all, but he'll split carries with Cam & Lo (when healthy). It won't be a situation where he gets 25 carries a game & Cam/Lo only get late relief carries, all 3 will get plenty of snaps between them & there will be times when each of them have big games.

He’s not elite man and hasn’t shown it thus far. Duke Johnson in 2014 had an “elite” season(1652 rushing yards 10 tds,421 receiving yards 3tds) , deejay hasn’t come close to that. He hasn’t even been better than Travis homer who imo has been underrated by Miami fans

Not True, the value of runningbacks has co
To call someone elite they have to be no worse than 2nd round ability.

Are you saying that Cam is 2nd rounder based upon what you’ve seen so far? I can’t, and I believe Cam is

Not True, runningbacks importance has consistently declined in the last several drafts, they're not getting drafted as high as they use too!

Great list. I'd like to add Chuck Foreman and OJA from earlier times. Foreman had some fumblitis issues at times and was more of a WR too at times, but he was a stud

A lot of kids are NOT elite in high school, they’re overrated.

Elite, to me, is … Special. Consensus day 1 starters the day they show up who dominate.

Take this 17 year old 6’3”/210 lbs kid from New Zealand who ran 10.22 (-0.2) a few days ago.

Check out that dude in lane 6 with the oddball form.
Probably ran the best 40 of the group.

If Lingard really is an ACL, don't expect to see him this year. It will be the Cam and Deejay show. And neither kid is elite. Dalvin Cook is elite. Duke Johnson is elite. Deejay is a good, solid college football player. He's not great. He's not elite. Cam maybe showed he has the potential to be very good, but really it's too early to tell his true ceiling or production. Let's talk around midseason.

Who has ever said lingard had an acl injury last year ? Imo cam(he’s not elite as of now) has a better chance of being elite due to his build and impressive speed compared to Dallas
