Question on Dabo

Clemson pays recruits, does steroids, and spends millions of dollars on top notch coordinators and assistants.

Miami does none of those things. This is a 3rd world program.
This is a program that would be crushed into oblivion by the NCAA if there was even a whiff of us doing either of the first two of those things. Some programs have different rules to follow than others.

Just curious about the "dumb" reaction from maimicanephins. Are you denying there is a different standard when it comes to recruiting benefits, boosters, and overall how the NCAA treats some schools?

Alabama, and other major programs, have had players come right out and state they were offered lots of money and incentives. There have been photos of boosters buying thousands of dollars of fancy suits for an Alabama player. There are countless examples which the NCAA never even bothered to investigate.

Miami had a local booster buy some dinners and various other small stuff....the NCAA didn't only investigate, they went so far as to take every single thing he said as true without any verification provided (but not only didn't take statements about other teams as true, but chose to not even bother looking into them), and they even went so far as to provide Shapiro a burner phone to make calls to their "investigator" while he was in jail.

But yeah, it's "dumb" that I claim there is a different set of rules?

We absolutely would have gotten him fired.

If Manny starts out like this, people will be losing their minds by year 4. The curse of a reactionary fan base.

****, people would have been calling for Dabo's head from 2011-2015 for "Clemsoning" every year.

Serious question how long did it take dabo to turn around clemson ?
Also if Dabo coached at miami do you think us fans would of ran him off n got him fired before he turned it around ?

that a serious question? lol there is a 1000% certainty people here would want him gone.

Dabo is an "ace" recruiter. I'm sure he walks in a players home, gives his speech, calls in a priest from the Newspring Church for nice lil' prayer and "God" issues that family wealth soon after.

Thus giving Dabo the title of ace recruiter.

Yes, and if you think Sammy Watkins and Deandre Hopkins went to a mediocre Clemson team because of lots of good words and arguments by Dabo.... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Never specified how he did it. Just stated what he did

You're right. Didn't mean "you" specifically, meant to convey in general, should have said "if someone thinks." So many on here seem to think that Manny just needs to do a better job selling the program...but the reality is a lot of the better recruiters aren't selling anything, they are buying recruits.

Clemson largely floundered under Dabo until they committed to winning. And the way you show commitment is money. Period.

Clemson Recruiting Budget
tl:dr: Went from roughly $300K when Dabo took over to $3 Million annual recruiting budget today: increase of roughly 891%.

This is Clemson's total athletic budget but I think its safe to assume 90% or more is directly attributable to the football program:

Clemson administration and boosters saw the sports business game was changing, committed and adapted.

Until we get serious and start playing chess rather than checkers, don't expect different results.

Chad Morris and Brent Venerables were not hired at $1million /yr. they didn’t get that until after their 2nd yr

True on Morris he was hired for around 500K early in 2011, but by December got a raise to 1.3 million per year.

Venables was hired at clemson for reportedly 750K-1 million. Then went way up from there. He makes 2.2 per year now I believe.

Thanks Captain Obvious. I would have used the old, dumb, and beating a dead horse reactions if I could.

Everyone knows what time it is, including the UNC cheating scandal you failed to mention.

The real problem at UM is the commitment to the football program. Everyone on here hates UCF, but their AD Danny White is crushing it. That whole school is behind the program and they are proud of it and they push it down your throat. Self declared NCs.

UM IS embarrassed by their past history and the football program is necessary evil.

This is why we will probably never be back. Despite how terrible it been for 15 years people around here still think Jimmy Johnson's grow on trees. We need to be like the Miami Heat, stable.

The point is the other poster was criticizing UM for NOT doing those things (steroids and buying recruits). But unlike some chosen schools, we CAN'T do those things. Why criticize for things that are not in our control? So my post was not just a random musing, it was responding to someone claiming we should do that. But thanks for clarifying the ridiculous reaction you had.

it also took dabo several years and the million dollar OC and DC to get their bag game correct.. look how quickly Alabama and ugh got back to being in the top 5 in recruiting. dabs just recently got it straight little by little until they could win a natty. Clemson has just out coached most every team. they beat us a few years ago with quick dinks and slants.. nothing fancy. now they have the ball rolling
We’ve seen these posts during the Shannon, Golden, and Richt era.

Sorry, it’s the same ole dog and pony show that we saw with Shannon and Golden. Both coaches were in over their head. And Diaz is the same.

Where is this Scarface coach would would have coached circles around Mack Brown? Lol.

Third year he made waves and collapsed. Couldn’t pull off big games for a while (Clemsoning) until Watson showed up. Him being able to hire the two first million dollar assistants at the time in Morris and Venables helped catapult his A+ leadership skills.

Exactly.
Dabo is a **** of a salesman and preacher. He is not some football guru head coach.
What Clem$on was ready for, he brought. A stellar pitch to booster clubs about the importance of "winning" in recruiting, the spending of a huge sum of $$$ on assistants.
Voila....Clemson is a dominant power they have never experienced and Dabo is heralded as the greatest life insurance salesman to become the next Nick Saban.

UM

I just remember the 2012 Orange Bowl--the day Clemson really turned the corner as a program. After the humiliating loss to WVU (West Virginia 70, Clemson 33) they went on a tear becoming a contender year after year after year.

This chart below is why I despise the folks calling for Manny's firing after two games. It took Dabo 3 years to get the program into good enough shape to compete regularly and 7 years to even sniff a championship game. Of course we're hoping to turn the corner faster but these things can take time. This is why you never blow up a program on a whim. It should be a nuclear button you push knowing that if you do your program will not see the light of day as a contender for at least a decade. Now, If the coach is completely incompetent ***cough*** Taggart ***cough***--sure; but Manny is far from that.

By year two of Dabo Swinney he had a worse year than the first. Imagine if Clemson fired him after year two? It would be like the Boston Red Sox trading Babe Ruth to the Yankees for $25,000--oh wait.

Clemson made it to CFPNCG and lost.
Clemson made it to CFPNCG and won.

Comparing our situation to Clemsons, or even FSU year four under Jimbo Fisher--an irregularity, not the norm; it's absurd. I've heard fans in the past say "Why can't Miami be champion caliber in four years or less? Jimbo did it". It's a fluke that happens once in a blue moon.

It's just not fair adding in the Dabo stats for the last few years - clearly if you read at the beginning - Dabo was a terrible hire. Conclusive!

Jimmy Johnson - his first year at UM proved he was a terrible hire. A disaster!

Howard Schnellenberger's first few years at UM proved - he was a terrible hire.

Butch Davis? Four years! Terrible hire! Never mind he could barely field a team during sanctions!

Manny? First two games - proof positive he's a terrible hire! Gas up the planes!

Venables is a DC gawd
