Question on Dabo

it also took dabo several years and the million dollar OC and DC to get their bag game correct.. look how quickly Alabama and ugh got back to being in the top 5 in recruiting. dabs just recently got it straight little by little until they could win a natty. Clemson has just out coached most every team. they beat us a few years ago with quick dinks and slants.. nothing fancy. now they have the ball rolling

He was 19-15 overall his first 2 and half years.

He was 1-2 in bowl games.

He went 6-7 in 2010, and many were saying he had 1 year to turn it around or he was going to be out. They ended 2010 with a blowout loss to rival South Carolina, and then embarrassing loss to an average USF team in the tire bowl.(I was there, stadium was empty even though it was close to Clemson). There was no excitement around the program.


He then made tough decisions, and got the administration full on board

Somehow with all that adversity Clemson Locked up Sammy watkins after that 6-7 season to the point he wouldn’t even field calls from Miami and UF. Then they gave Dabo over a million to go hire Chad Morris to be OC. Clemson with a Sammy Watkins exploding on the scene and with Chad Morris changing the offense went 10-4 in 2011 winning ACC. They got blown out by wVU in bowl game allowing 70 points.( I was there).

Clemson nation was disgusted with the defense, so Dabo fires Kevin Steele. He then got over a million to go hire Brent Venables. Clemson became first program with million dollar coordinators on both sides.

Then they were able to sign Deshaun Watson from about hour away in Gainesville, GA. Rest is history.

Chad Morris and Brent Venerables were not hired at $1million /yr. they didn’t get that until after their 2nd yr

You know **** well that's a rhetorical question. There's no way in **** Miami fans would sit still for 2 years, let alone 3 or 5 or whatever it was. You could see how close they were when they got stomped out by WVA, but we would have tossed him right out and slapped ourselves on the back about it.

Clemson pays recruits, does steroids, and spends millions of dollars on top notch coordinators and assistants.

Miami does none of those things. This is a 3rd world program.

It was amazing how a kid from fort Myers absolutely fell in love with Clemson after the team barely going 500 for two years. He loved them so much that he didn’t even bother taking phone calls from the in state schools. It’s amazing the following Clemson had down here back 2010

Watkins mom still works for the school and has house.

A lot of their big booster have second homes on the west coast of Florida. They target a lot of west coast Florida kid and pay them well.

if next year Miami goes out and replaces 3 position coaches with top SEC assistants... or ships out Baker for a top DC, you'll know Manny is serious and Miami is backing him.

Manny can definitely be our Dabo. The 'awe shucks' routine works well in south Carolina and Mannys flash can work in Miami. He needs to understand, as a HC/CEO, you have to have quality OC/DCs who you trust. Baker/Banda/Patke will be his/our downfall

He couldn't turn it around at the U. Dabo is a great CEO, but he needs bags to recruit and he needs million dollar coaches to win big. He won't have that here.

I just remember the 2012 Orange Bowl--the day Clemson really turned the corner as a program. After the humiliating loss to WVU (West Virginia 70, Clemson 33) they went on a tear becoming a contender year after year after year.

This chart below is why I despise the folks calling for Manny's firing after two games. It took Dabo 3 years to get the program into good enough shape to compete regularly and 7 years to even sniff a championship game. Of course we're hoping to turn the corner faster but these things can take time. This is why you never blow up a program on a whim. It should be a nuclear button you push knowing that if you do your program will not see the light of day as a contender for at least a decade. Now, If the coach is completely incompetent ***cough*** Taggart ***cough***--sure; but Manny is far from that.

By year two of Dabo Swinney he had a worse year than the first. Imagine if Clemson fired him after year two? It would be like the Boston Red Sox trading Babe Ruth to the Yankees for $25,000--oh wait.

Comparing our situation to Clemsons, or even FSU year four under Jimbo Fisher--an irregularity, not the norm; it's absurd. I've heard fans in the past say "Why can't Miami be champion caliber in four years or less? Jimbo did it". It's a fluke that happens once in a blue moon.

His 4th year when he went 10-4, but as for comparisons, Manny has to prove that he can hold his own on the field imo because Dabo was known as an Ace recruiter by his 3rd year. Winning 6-7 games and Pulling Sammy Watkins & Deandre Hopkins.
