Next week We are facing a seasoned and experienced coach with a qb that looked really good last night.

Mario is a combine 3-4 against the following coaches Lashlee, Brohm and Witingham.
It could easily be 2-5 if it wasn’t for cam Ward and some help from a referee last year.
He’s played those coaches with teams that had better recruiting classes and more draft picks every time he faced those coaches.

Last time Mario faced Narduzzi was in 2022 when we lost 42-16 in his first season.

Our coach cost more, our roster is costs more, our recruiting classes over the past 3 years isn’t even close.
The amount of nfl talent compared to pit is greater.
The amount of money and size of support staff is vast in comparison.

Again this team is in familiar territory where for some reason we have to be concerned about possibly losing a game despite all the on paper advantages that for 20 years never translate to the field.

So for all of you coaching gurus:

What would you do to stop Pitt and what could Pitt do to stop us?

We are 9 games in and what do we need to mask or improve to insure we leave Pitt with a convincing W?

This board isn’t going to like this answer, but I think we run it down their throat. @DMoney said on the his reaction podcast that Pitt is small up front — we need to abuse that.

We’re going to have to establish the run to open up our passing game. Hopefully, Daniels is back healthy because we’re going to need him.

Defensively, I’d light this kid up. Don’t let him get comfortable. Play a lot of man coverage and dare Pitt to beat us vertically. Their RB is shifty — looks like a more polished Pringle. They will try to isolate our LBs against him. That’s why getting pressure is so important.

Game will come down to who makes more mistakes and if our offense can continue to play consistently.

On this note, does anyone know if Brewu returned to the game last night after he got injured?

Hopefully UM can bro ball against their small front and hit some shots vs their quarters looks…Pitt runs a lot of match zones(quarters/2read) and hot blitz coverage..plays to be had but Beck struggles vs this.

I rewatched the Pitt-ND game and I think our DL is going to eat them alive. They weren't picking up the blitzes well, their tackles were getting beat easily, and a sped up Heintschel was making poor decisions. I think our DL is going to show up for sure, especially after this weeks poor performance, but the key to me is our DBs. Can they blanket Pitt's WRs the way ND did?

I heard @DMoney say this and feel like he is falling back into the same trap he did earlier in season. Pitt is #2 in conference against the run, why do we feel like we can run on them when we barely can run on VT. We are dam near top 20 passing offense in nation while Pitt is middle of pack on passing defense, our QB has been heating up and our best player is Malachi Toney who plays WR and just had one of his biggest game..

Yet the gameplan should be to revert back to SMU cave man run up middle with avg back Fletcher because we looked at depth chart and think we will pound them up middle? Establish the run, time of possession, pound pound pound right?!

Dont let @k9cane see this lol..

awww geez, thanks buddy!! Now you ruined my Sunday!! You SOB!!!

Now, I'll say it again, pass-to-eventually-run. Let Beck operate the throw game on early downs so they can consistently stay ahead of the chains.

Call me Asian Bill Walsh #EstablishPoints

Their 247 site listed their OL as a bright spot against GTech, and they gave up 6 sacks. Lol. Our DL should feast and we should have opportunities for multiple picks. that RB had a whale of a game for them against Tech's awful defense. Stopping the run massively important, cause we should have a clear advantage when they try to pass against us.

****t on Pitt

That’s not really what I said.

I think we need to pass down the field. Pitt’s safeties are going to be flying downhill like FSU with their run fits and they will blitz like crazy. That’s their identity.

What I said is that this might be a game for our bigger backs because Pitt’s defense is fast but small. Their linebackers in particular are really good and look like safeties. Our bigger backs can protect Beck and punish them when given an opportunity.

Pringle should still be involved in multiple ways but I don’t think this a high-volume carry game for him.

Thanks for clearing up because it was more towards the end and didnt have time to comment live.. Forgot about it til the above comment. I dont care the size of any team, we havent really shown to be a good running team this season. Whatever idea of pound pound pound we got drunk on early in season went up in smokes I hope for this season. Yes we will need to run effectively to keep teams off balance but to lean into it is a disaster with 75th ranked run game..

I don’t want the gameplan to revert back to SMU. We had zero diversity in run game and were insanely predictable.

But I do think we win this game on the ground. If Pitt forces us to be one dimensional and we’re stuck in 3rd and long, we’re cooked. If we can establish the run, Beck should be able to pick their secondary apart.
