Question about our DB coaching

I know **** all about playing DB

But to me one of the things I’ve noticed watching DB play is what a player does when they are beat. It’s gonna happen if you play DB so seeing them fight through the throw to the end is something I’ve always kept an eye on and taken notes

After the first few games I’ve noticed (I think) more emphasis on what to do here. Not panicking and still making plays even after you “give it up”

@Memnon or the other DB gurus here is it just me? Is it a coincidence? I know many were excited about our new DB coaches but seems it would be pretty standard to teach things like this

I know as much as you do - **** all. I would say they are playing much better though.

Caveat though, they are different, much better players too. I'm sure it's a combination of better players, better defense, and more confidence the players have.

Yeah that was my thought. I know some were thrilled with the coaching changes but same time the talent has taken a step up as well

The awareness during man coverage that the ball is in the air has improved significantly. Lots of hand swiping

No one knows about playing the Dat Butt position more than me. But I’ll keep my DB secrets to myself

Playing through the hands is a fundamental element to CB play.

If you can't make a play on the ball at its Apex in the air at the top of the route, the best & only way to break it up is to disrupt the catch-point by closing in, hook the arm & punching through. Or, just try to get your hands in-between the ball & the hands of the WR.

Most CB Coaches do teach it, but not all. Some prefer for their Corners to face-guard in an effort to block the sight line of the WR & making it harder to catch. But that doesn't work very often. It usually just ends up as a PI.

As to if that's something "new" to this year, not really. Romanas was doing it last year too

It's more just a matter of each player taking what they were taught & applying to their play on the field.

Don't you always hear "Play through the catch"? Good example of this happened in the Clemson-Syracuse game today

Thank you for the feedback. This paragraph in particular stands out. I’ve seen habits like this, or maybe it’s just instinctual as a DB to try and make that play. Feels a little gutsier to wait a little bit longer and make a play on the actual ball. Anyway pretty cool thanks
