Quarterback Offer Breakdown: Sam Howell

Measured 6' 1.5" and 225 lbs at The Opening regional in Atlanta. Everyone there reported it was a terrible day and poor conditions, but a 5.12 40 is pretty bad.

23.3" vertical. 4.58 shuttle.

I know he's a pro style QB, and I do like his film, but you've got to be at least a little concerned about the athleticism after those testing numbers.
Like i tried to explain to people last year when they kept trying to tell me all about my nephew & his friends that grew up in my house measurements all of those camps except the actual opening and the elite camps they are very unorganized. Some make kids take off shoes etc, others dont. Timing is a joke on the 40s. Take it all with a grain of salt. Sam howell is no more than 5'10. I know this for a fact. Height isnt everything but its definitely a factor. Kid throws a pretty ball but hes a midget who will get lost at fsu.

H
Well the pickster didn’t throw td’s, yards , int or attempts. It’s actually pretty amazing he had so many offers with what seems like 15 attempts.
He got his offers because his family dispersed funds to the right people shall we say. Im not guessing here.

A 23" VJ for him?

That's horrible. I don't recall seeing a number that low before - must be others that low - but that's not too impressive.

Graham Mertz, by comparison, who I think we all acknowledge is a traditional Pro QB, posted at the same event:

5.07 40
26.5" vert
4.32 shuttle

Again, I really don't get the fit in Taggart's offense, at least what he has ran in the past, especially with guys like Tai and Daniels on the board

With the misses he's had at QB since he's got there he had to take someone. People do weird **** when they get desperate.

Wiltdong said yesterday that he's still leaving his CB pick on Tai to FSU. Willie is pushing hard for 2 QBs this class since they whiffed last class.

I'll believe it when I see it. Howell looks like a good prospect, but if he actually gets Howell and Taisun or Howell and Jayden Daniels to both sign, that'd be very impressive. It goes without saying 2 of the top kids rarely sign with the same school in the same class.

yes its rare but it DOES happen, look at UW with Sirmon and Yankoff... Petersen is also 10 times the coach that Taggart ever will be so i can see why 2 good QBs might want to choose UW lol

UW was kind of a special situation. That Sirmon kid is a local whose parents are professors at the school, he wasn't even interested in taking visits elsewhere. Neither Howell, nor Tai, nor Daniels has been comparatively as locked on on only being interested in FSU.

Same thing with Texas last year. Cam Rising committed even with Casey Thompson there. But Rising's dad played in college with Herman, so there was a special connection there.

So yes it does happen, but there usually are extenuating circumstances.

Still had to have Yankoff come in to complete that special situation but yeah I see what u are getting at... man UW is stacked at QB with those 2 and Dylan Morris coming in wow... Yankoff would be great in our RPO

Lots of interceptions and a low completion percentage should exclude QBs from getting UM offers. Those are death knells in my book.

Lol see this is why we suck... everybody at Miami wants the safe QB that loses but throws a perfect 30/35 with 1 TD and 0 interceptions... while other teams know how to spot a winner.

😂

You actually have to pay attention to the details. The kid would have been PURE TRASH at FSU (ULTRA TRASH), and his skill set is actually being pampered by his OC at UNC. He isn’t being asked to read defenses. That’s straight from his OC’s mouth.

Howell is not a better QB than JW. He’s being asked to do less - and his WRs are being asked to do more. Again, straight from his OC’s mouth. They literally have plays called “get open”.... This is why he stares at one WR so long.

It’s the system. Their OC even had trash QBs looking good at Ole Miss.

I know you guys want to hate on JW bad. But, you gotta dig a bit deeper....
