Miami Hurricanes star-studded running back Mark Fletcher was resting during last night's 52-3 win over the Central Michigan Chippewas. Backup running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey took that opportunity and made the most out of it, making a solid impression on the Hurricanes fanbase.
Wheatley-Humphrey didn't get to play much his first two seasons with the team, but he stuck it through and got his chance tonight. He dominated Central Michigan's defense, leading the Hurricanes with 104 rushing yards and one touchdown.
He displayed his ability to run hard downfield along with his explosiveness and twitchiness in the backfield.
Last season, he played in only five games, sitting behind a stacked running back group. During the 2025-26 season, he totaled for 108 yards across 22 carries.
Following his performance, head coach Mario Cristobal praised him, stating that he works his butt off every practice.
"Chris Wheatley-Humphrey with his first 100-yard game ever. I mean, credit to him, man. That guy really works his butt off. Really good football player."
According to Pro Football Focus, he played in 17 snaps, boasting a 75.8 grade that ranks No. 4 among the offensive group, behind Darian Mensah (91.8), Jackson Cantwell (83.9), and Malachi Toney (76.6).
His longest run came at the 10-minute mark in the fourth quarter, running right down the middle for a 35-yard rushing touchdown to record his first-ever touchdown as a Hurricane.
