Quantifying the talent gap MTSU/UM/culture problem

exactly. everybody wants to yell fire everybody and don't hold the ones that actually play the game accountable. Same kids, different coaches, same results. Sorry but that's on the players. Nobody should have to get you fired up to play a game when you only get 12 shots a year if you're trying to make it to the league

Exactly. What do you think Mario walked in to, and how did you expect him to change it with the same losing players that were here last year? A new culture requires different people. This is true in any organization.
Losing to Bama or Georgia this year could be blamed on the roster. Losing to MTSU is on the coaches. I absolutely hate to defend Manny and feel dirty even typing this sentence but Manny + Lashlee calling the plays with this exact same roster would have beaten MTSU.

A hundred different head and assistant coaches over 20 years, but somehow none of them know how to coach such elite "talent". That doesn't add up.

If you're focused on MTSU, you're missing the big picture. Literally, you and I could have "coached" a quality team past MTSU. That should be the indicator that this isn't about coaching or scheming. It's a mentality problem. These kids, like the ones that came before them, don't give a **** about winning anything.

exactly. Plus NIL now puts money in these kids pockets. So is the fire or hunger there like it was before? Is Miami kids overrated in general? I mean there are sure fire studs down here for sure but most of them are escaping to the Bamas and OSUs of the world. We have to stop that from happening and that's what Mario was paid to do. We have to give the man atleast 3-4 years to flip the roster. Everybody saying this wasn't a rebuild when we were 7-5 last year and lost 70% of offense production.

my point exactly

There is absolutely no way to justify losing to MTSU. Do we have top 10 talent? Of course we don't. Do we have enough talent to comfortably beat MTSU? Of course we do!

My goodness.

We did not lose on Saturday because of coaching. Every coach on our staff has pounded teams that had lesser talent. Look at their resumes. Why is it that no one seems to be able to come to Miami and win?

I dont think its 50 guys and a whole roster overhaul. All it really takes on a roster this size is 8-10 guys and then you get the crab pot mentality.

Then the first sign of trouble the doubt creeps back in with the guys who were bought in. This fan base has it too. There was a huge portion of this board who "hoped" for 8-9 wins..maybe more iffff all went well but knew there would be growing pains. If we are going to lose to a team like MTSU I'm glad its game 4 and not game 34 after investing, standing behind, and believing a staff was going to correct and change things. Mario has to give this roster an *****. Hit a homerun with this class and then mix in a few portal guys again. Thats 2 years in a row and can take care of a huge chunk of the issue by year 2.

I still am on board; for the rest of this season lets see progress. Because frankly their WR were literally running back yard football go routes and dusting us. So if you are asking "MTSU doesnt have more talent then us" well they dont but they had enough in key positions to exploit major roster flaws...that most of us knew about but we felt all great about because we dropped 70 on Bethune. **** Southern Miss hit us with a few deep routes too. If Stewart played for A&M they probably would have hit us 1 or 2 times over the top too. Wander is right too most of you are just seeing a surface issues and not the big picture. Yes Gattis is definitely deserving of scrutiny. But we have some kids with no fight and no talent. I will say I hope they start going full youth movement. Let some of these kids take their lumps and learn. Because our young DB's going against our WR's in practice arent helping them.

I expect growth by the end of the season. What that means I dont know exactly but if and when it is happening we will see it I think for this team its going to be effort and caring. A huge step forward next year (Acc Champ game), and then year 3 we need to be a top 10 team or close to it for the reason that this staff and program have shown they are invested. I think in this day and age with the portal, NIL, and our location and history that would be fair.

We're so used to blaming coaches that many can't realize that cultural rot is a huge reason we are the way we are. This is a roster that has routinely lost to G5 schools in recent years. They've never won a bowl game or more than 8 games in a season. We have a generation of rosters that are used to this level of mediocrity and complacency. You see other teams play, and it's obvious that their players are hurting when they lose. It eats at them, they hate the feeling. With us, our guys just shrug it off and go back to doing what they were doing. They're numb to it, and so have 18 years of rosters.

All of those four and five stars, as well as the highly regarded three stars don't mean much when they spent their entire college careers taking Ls to teams just like MTSU, learning from previous generations of players how not to give a fvck, and getting second rate, third rate coaching from G5 type coaches. At that point, all those stars don't mean much...still...there is enough talent on this team to beat the dog **** out of MTSU, but perhaps, this roster is too far gone and perhaps Mario and his staff (filled with national championship and conference championship winners with tons of pros recruited and coached by them) isn't going to change these guys as quickly as we would have hoped, if he ever does.

There are serious culture/locker room issues going on for the canes. The talent discrepancy is so huge that this is the only plausible explanation for what happened saturday. Its not even about maximizing talent or under utilizing our talent. There is much, much more going on.

I picked the 2021 class as a comparison

MTSU 2021 class rank: 121
UM 2021 class rank: 11

MTSU's highest rated player is rated .8497 (3 star) according to 247.

Our lowest rated player (outside of the kicker and new australian punter behind Hedley) is .8559 (3 star) according to 247.

Yes-our lowest rated recruit in 2021 is better than their highest ranked recruit.

We had 2 5 star, 12 4 star, 8 3 star
They didnt have 1 commit over 3 star.

How bad can the culture and locker room be right now? Pretty **** bad apparently. Worse than I could have imagined.
Now do app state and tamu...

its weird they even practice. They should just put their stars on their name plates and dominate.

Some one's stars only matter in high school. You don't get drafted on your stars.

Your ability to execute quickly running more advanced concepts is what gets your drafted.

These guys are not getting drafted. Watch... if they do it will be some of the shortest careers ever.

The issue is their ability to consistently execute while running college level concepts better than their opponents.

I would love to see some one post the roster with their stars so we can revaluate their stars based on performance. My guess is we would be in the bottom 3rd of the ACC.

Take this with a huge grain of salt as I have zero clue how accurate this is........

Ok so my boy who posts on here is close with a staffer at Columbus.

This staffer is close with Cristobal and Mirabal. Said staffer told my boy verbatim that Mario mentioned a few months after he was hired that if he would have known how bad the culture was on the team he would've stayed at Oregon.

Again, not sure how true this is but I believe it lol

Doesn't make sense other than it being said in jest. Mario didnt come here because he thought Miami was in a better place. He came here because he wants Miami to win as much as we do. He would have come here if we were in much worse shape. The salary and investments were testaments to their commitment. The only way he wouldn't come here was if his hands were tied and the bot refuse to invest. This dude has been thinking about heading Miami since his first day of coaching.

So who’s job is it to fix that? If the upperclassmen are all losers that rather party, then bench their asses. If we are going to get our *** kicked anyways, might as well be with the freshmen that might get better. I rather see the whole senior class portal out then watch them make the same mistakes and lay the same eggs they have been for 4 years.
