Very interesting. From a private USC board today:
GARCIA
While Miami fans might be throwing a party out in South Beach over their No. 1 quarterback target moving much, much closer, multiple sources reaffirmed that four-star quarterback Jake Garcia is very solid with the Trojans. The decision is motivated by one overall goal: more reps. One source said Garcia has been very honest with himself that he needs more games under his belt before going to college. He has yet to play a full high school season as a starter. Garcia has 26 varsity games to his name, six as a backup his freshman season at Long Beach Poly. Miller Moss by comparison goes into his senior year with 32 varsity games, two full seasons as a starter at Alemany and freshman starts at Loyola.
Now there was a scenario where Garcia ended up playing in Arizona over SEC country. Back in the spring Garcia said if he went out of state to play he'd target Arizona first because he wanted to stay close. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Arizona was the initial move but the plan fell through due to communication issues. While Georgia is not ideal, remember that California kids that have ventured out South typically end up feeling homesick.
It actually might be better in the long run: new intel surfaced this week that Arizona State was hoping Garcia made the move to Arizona. According to another source, the Sun Devils have started putting a full court press on Garcia. Similar to Miami, the Sun Devils are selling Garcia on the chance to be "the man" of their class, not one of two with USC.
MILLER MOSS
With Garcia recently moving to Southern Georgia, aka South Jawja, the next thought for USC fans was the status of their other four-star quarterback commit, Miller Moss. A source close to Moss did reveal this week that people at Valdosta, the school Garcia will attend, also reached out to the Mission Hills quarterback about three month ago. However, Moss decided to turn down the move for various reasons.
Valdosta’s new head coach, Rush Propst, is thought to be one of them. Propst has been a very controversial figure in the high school football ranks. That controversy started at Hoover High School in Alabama and resulted in his dismissal from Colquitt County High School in Georgia. Propst’s laundry list of allegations as a head coach include grade tampering, code of ethics violations, playing ineligible players, giving players pills and interfering with the hiring of a principal. That doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface on the many allegations surrounding his personal life or his suspension from Colquitt County for head butting a player during a game. His Wikipedia page is quite the read if you’re looking for the torrid details.
Moss was also contacted by IMG Academy and Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis as potential landing destinations if the high school football season was canceled in California. From everything we’ve been told by multiple sources, Moss will not play his senior year and instead enroll directly into USC in January
