Okay....So Perry finishes the year out as the starter.....is the QB spot an open competition in camp with him and Williams? Or it's his job until he graduates or goes pro?

Perry has it for the remainder of the year. That is not in doubt. But if he suddenly struggles like Malik did at the end of last year, and through four games this year, yes, his job is in jeopardy. But I do think Perry won't do that but you never know. Perry has something I have seen in Canes quarterbacks for years. He is a winner. It is not that the back-ups aren't winners as well but the kid has something we haven't had for awhile. Jacory had it for awhile and lost it but he had no real competition. You just never know with college kids. We will see if he can sustain it.

If Jarren is better he takes the job. This isn't Optimus league where everyone gets to play. The best player plays. Period.

Just sit back and watch the growth of the young man that is our starter right now. No sense in worry about anything beyond our next opponent.

I like Perry. He has talent and I hope he grows and lives up to our lofty expectations. I expect a quarterback competition next year unless he starts putting up Tua like numbers and consistency the remainder of this year.

I can see the ability, so let’s see how the rest of the season plays out.

Still got half a season to play out, at this point Malik is done and you’d be doing a disservice to everyone including him by putting him back out there. You have to use the rest of this season to judge no one knows .. nkosi is scratching the surface for all we know he could come on huge these next 6 game or JW could be a Beast for all we know next spring

It better be a legitimate QB competition and not whatever the **** he did last off-season with the Rosier QB battle. Split the 1st team reps and make them earn it ALL THE WAY OR ALMOST ALL THE WAY TILL GAME ONE. You can't expect to get real results from a QB battle when 1 guy plays the 2nd team D with the 1st team O-line/players and the other plays with the 2nd team O against the 1st team defense especially when the talent disparity between team 1 and team 2's O-line.

And START THE GUY WHO GIVES US THE BEST CHANCE TO POTENTIALLY BE BETTER THEN WHAT WE WERE THE YEAR BEFORE ie Clemson, Alabama, or any other team that has a QB battle in 2018. We did not do that with Rosier. We committed to him when he wasn't the best option. We're suppose to commit to the best option not the player. We don't OWE a player anything other then a chance to compete PERIOD. So many people think we owe Rosier because we won 10 games with him.. What? That's not how things work. You compete to win the job then compete to keep it. PERIOD.

I feel like we're not doing that as a staff because we got a lot of guys who have continue to prove they shouldn't be on the field yet they're still on the field ie: Knowles, Jahair, MaHomey, keeping donaldson at tackle, etc.

Oh and stop wasting reps on Weldon and Rosier. Williams should be the 2nd string QB. Rosier sucks and Weldon is not reliable because he is constantly in trouble.

This is how I see it. Weldon probably transfers if he wants playing time. CMR will have an open competition at QB. He'll say how it makes everyone better (it does). Out of the Spring he will say the QB competition is close whether it is or not to keep both Perry and Williams engaged. The competition will extend thru Fall camp where Richt won't name a starter until week 1. This ensures that both QBs are enrolled in the Fall 2019 semester which will guarantee we have 2 QBs for the 2019 season.

After the 2019 season, there are 4 scenarios that can happen depending on who the 2019 QB is and how he plays.

1. Jarren wins 2019 starting QB job and Canes win 10+ games, then N'kosi transfers.

2. N'kosi wins 2019 starting QB job and Canes win 10+ games, then Jarren transfers.

3. N'kosi wins 2019 starting QB job and Canes win 10+ games, Jarren is the backup for 2020, gets his degree and transfers having 2 years of eligibility remaining.

4. N'kosi wins 2019 starting QB job and Canes win the ACC and go to CFP. Perry plays so well he is in the Heisman conversation for 2020. Richt has a conversation with Jarren that N'kosi is going to turn pro after his redshirt junior year and Jarren will be the starter for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He ensures Jarren that he will get him to the NFL

My gut and heart says that the #4 scenario takes place. We will recruit 2 QBs for 2020 class. Jarren will be the starter for 2021 and 2022 allowing the 2020 QBs time to mature. This keeps mature QBs in the pipeline. QB U is resurrected!!!

Richt has to convince Jarren that staying at UM is in his best interest and that if he stays the course, he will make it to the NFL which is what Jarren said was the reason why he chose UM.

If Jarren wins the 2019 job, N'kosi gone. No QB that starts an entire year is going to sit the bench for his remaining eligibility. Besides Perry not being ready, this is why Rosier was named the starter in the Spring. If N'kosi was named the starter, we may have lost Rosier and Jarren may have had doubts about sticking with UM. This is why there will be an open QB competition in the Spring regardless of how Perry plays.

You have spent a lot of time thinking on this :p

Please no jacory comparisons

Whoever loses out on this job next season will transfer imo. No kid sits anymore waiting for his two years, especially when they see the way veterans are being replaced by freshmen across the country these days.

It's the day before game 7 in 2018. Let's enjoy the ride with Perry this season and leave the QB speculation for 2019 for the appropriate time - like spring 2019.
