Protect College Sports Act [formerly “SCORE Act” thread]

Meh, Cartman’s joke falls flat for me. The vast majority of students playing sports at the collegiate level are student athletes who are more than fairly compensated by scholarships, room and board, etc.

The problem is football, and to a lesser extent men’s basketball, bring in so much money it created an issue that college sports were never intended, or designed, to deal with.
Yeah, I think the issue started with 7-8 figure coach salaries, 9-figure facilities, etc., all of which were justified and then necessitated by the huge TV payouts. Unfortunately, we as fans are all degenerate ****ers willing to pour huge gobs of money into this machine to get our fix.

Holy ignorance Batman.

This is true for MAYBE 3-5% (and even that may be way too high) of all scholarship athletes.

lmao. You’re just wrong

The only athletes who you can argue are not fairly compensated by room and board play football and men’s basketball. Every single other sport just loses money. Even then, especially on a roster as large as football, most guys are fairly compensated by what now amounts to a couple hundred thousand worth of scholarship/room/etc. Are you actually attempting to claim that fours years of free education at UM isn’t fair compensation for say a long snapper?

Do you think a long snapper at UM is the vast majority of scholarships?

If you’re saying vast majority of collegiate football and basketball players at the p4 level, then yes I agree.

If you’re saying the vast majority of the ~200k collegiate athletes in the US? You’re smoking bath salts.

General Mike Ryan Ruiz is fighting the fight.

Love Mike but the hate for Phillips is uncalled for. FSU & Clemson suing ****ed so many things up (even tho there was a positive unintended consequence for us).

The decisions that harm the acc’s members the most all happened under his predecessor. Which is why it’s absolutely absurd that UNC is trying to break out the ACC, given that said predecessor was a UNC alum.

He and his nepo baby son’s corrupt actions really limited our ability to get TV money, put us behind the sec and b1g, and crucially devalued our elite basketball conference during the rise of college football as a tv product. College football’s product is so powerful it has led people to miss out on the highway robbery that ESPN & Skipper (another guy I have a lot of respect for and it wasn’t his duty to overpay lol) pulled off by getting Swofford to pool together the rights of basketball and football together to be sold to the network.

Then, Calipari went from Memphis to Kentucky which gave the SEC a comparable powerhouse to Duke. Just like with Saban, it gave the SEC a rocket for the rest of them to shine off of just by association.

Just get past the election without this passing. If you think dems aren't going to win, the Iowa GOP senate candidate isn't even attending a campaign event in Iowa with the VP. She doesn't want to be associated with the toxic admin in red Iowa. They are cooked and after they get cooked they will not do anything at all to help Trump and dems will not make any deals.

So these caps and restrictions wouldn’t hurt those student athletes?

One last gripe before I head to bed, it really grinds my gears that the NFL is allowed to just act like none of this is their problem when their decades long use of CFB as an unofficial developmental league is what created all this.
No, what created all this was the NCAA trying to profit off athletes, name, image and likeness. Does Eddie OBannion ring a bell, sir? You’re spewing nonsense! NIL is the law and anything that goes against it will lose in court. Those are facts right there.

Get this NCAA shill out of here! Lmao

This right here. Congress had already been sent home and I very much doubt they’re gonna be pushing something like this Bill through during lame-duck session. Think we can all relax now a little bit because this thing isn’t even gonna get voted on in the house. During the lame-duck session, the only thing they’re gonna be voting on is keeping the government open and we all know that that’s always a fight! Lol

No one with a brain wants Congress (total F’ups) dictating college football. This is the nuttiest thing ever & I’m sick of ESPN/College Game Day & their political heavy handed B.S.the last few weeks schilling for the passing of this bill; Nick Sabin, Ted Cruz whoever else they can drag up. The SEC put LSU in it’s place recently so the conference big wigs need to show some cojones, all get together & decide how it's going to be done. They’ve already tightened the portal, now put salary caps on what can be spent including coaches/players etc. Newsflash: Disney (Mickey Mouse) owns ESPN & they are lobbying hard for this bill & putting up big $$....beware what you wish for.

Phillips is ******* terrible

**** Jim Phillips. He has obvious motivations to prevent us from leaving to save his dying, bloated, putrid, rotting carcass of a conference.
