I don’t think it is. Miami can’t survive making $50 million less per year every year in perpetuity. And Miami’s boosters, who are spending right now to help position Miami for the next realignment round, won’t have any incentive to keep spending on this level if the realignment door slams shut.

We were Golden/Shannon level for 25 years. We only dug out of that because of big dollar investment. Change that underlying math and we’re right back to mediocre again

Miami may be the wealthiest college football school in the country at this point - whatever happens, we are positioned very well with UHealth, fintech money, and now Nike money.

And this bill - in its current form with salary and conference caps - has less than a 1% chance of passing and standing up in a court of law. NIL became a thing because the Supreme Court had enough of the NCAA's cartel and college sport's corruption - you think all of the legal victories (aka precedent) are going to go out of the windows because of one new, rogue bill sponsored by the NCAA and conferences/schools that can no longer compete with the likes of Miami, ND, etc. in terms of monetary investment?

Something will eventually put some checks and balances on college sports 'this bill ain't it.

It seems to me that the way this bill is structured, it might as well be called the Destroy the Miami Hurricanes Football Program Act. Am I seeing this correctly?

Capping conferences at 19 (strange number). That means ND goes to the Big Ten. FSU, Clemson, & Ga Tech go to the SEC. This forces Miami to be the only remaining football school in the ACC or go independent for five years in an era when the SEC and Ben Ten don't want any tough out of conference games just to be able to join the Big XII.

What am I missing?

- yes, Trump wants it, but there are most likely a bunch of republicans about to lose their jobs due to him (not getting into politics blue or red, that's just current likely projection whether you love it or not- sorry facts still matter not your network of choice) but of course voting still has to happen
- people that lost their seats in GOP- whether because of who they blame, their own actions, the redistricting not working out, etc are not going to really care that Trump wants it. They care where their next check or next campaign is coming from.
- Entirely possible that the majority of the Florida delegation, with pressure from UM, FSU, etc could tank chances too.
- Speaker barely has control of his caucus anyway, and he might be a lame duck too - almost certain
- OR they pass their own version of this bill and change the realignment and independence caps, and it goes away til they then have to negotiate with the Senate to come up with a unified version.

Still a lot to go; it can happen/might not, along the way.

Usually, a lame-duck session only deals with must-pass budget and defense. This is neither.

Call your reps. This must die as long as section 205 is in it, or you'd better pray that our billionaires want to keep covering what will become a $50 M or more media gap alone with the SEC and Big Ten going forward indefinitely.

If it does pass with all the terrible **** added, get ready for court very shortly after.

All excellent points. With what’s likely about to happen in this election plus the current margins and Johnson’s pretty much totally lack of control over his conference, even getting must pass legislation done is going to be an insane challenge. It’s hard to envision a scenario where they would even consider taking up this legislation. I think people still worried about this are completely underestimating the state the House is going to be in after what’s likely going to happen in this election.

Let people make money for their work. It is arguably in the Contracts Clause of the Constitution (I’m not a constitutional scholar but some on CIS are much more so than me), but it definitely contradicts the Declaration of Independence and the inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I know the Declaration is not law, but it is our national document. It unites us as Americans and it separates us from the rest of world.

To limit how much money a person can make is un-American. Doesn’t matter the age or station in life.

100% agree, the Supreme Court went 9-0 against NCAA. If this passes ( current save act) some sharp agent will take it to court and win an injunction.
the colleges and NCAA seem to want to try and "put the band back together ", why don't they admit that the old system is broke and create a new dynamic in college football & Basketball the 2 revenue producing sports???

Well said, this thing is dead in the house and that’s even if the Senate actually votes on it. Someone said on here yesterday that the Senate actually never even gonna truly vote on it. But this thing dies in the house and that’s a good thing for UM and the athletes.

This was 2 years before Alston. They knew what they were doing was illegal and they were gonna lose in court. These kids need to get together and form an association and collectively bargain.

Believe that is a PROPOSED AMENDMENT by Moody that didn't make it into the actual final bill. So if any school wants to sign binding conference transfer agreements with a P2 conference they will need to have all paper work done BEFORE the bill (if approved by Congress) is signed into law by the president.
