But IMO far more important than any future conference musical chairs is the disastrous potential ramifications for all teams with large payrolls. It’s really unknown how the NCAA + CSC will use their new powers to punish teams; however, if the Xavier Lucas’ Rule’s swift implementation is any indicator, the NCAA will have no mercy on us. They suspended Arion Carter 3 games for a plane ticket! They haven’t really learned all that much! The effect could be rather immediate. All the TV / conference realignment stuff should be put to the side by our fanbase for the imminent threat that is at the door.

It doesn’t really matter if the TV money payout makes it easier for more teams in the b1g + SEC than the us in the acc currently, or in the future; because right now and for the next 2 years, we are spending bigger than most of them with an annual deficit via the differences in TV payout, and there’s no guarantee that programs with large recent gains in football revenue, like Indiana, will use that money on talent acquisition. We know this because IU had a massive increase in football revenue (and I’m sure many other facets of the university) and didn’t put a game-changing amount of money to use on their roster. Schools are still redoing facilities and stadiums etc. Plenty of them are preemptively handicapping themselves for whatever rhyme or reason.

Theyll force us to do a combination of reducing all of our athletes’ NIL and additionally pay a fine of $1 for every $5 we are over their 49 million cap; not as a football roster, but as a collective unit from every varsity sport within whole AD. And we are not allowed to cut any sports/teams; it’d be literally federally illegal LOL. And while we may take a stand and pay a big fine in year 1 for the principle of not lowering agreed upon compensation, there are limits to that because going over in one year rolls over to the next punitively.

For example, if we have to pay a 1 million dollar fine for being 5 million over, then our payroll the following year, after taking into account the inflation increase, will be 5 million lower because of it. Thus, we can spend the same amount of money and incur a larger fine AGAIN as well as have a much smaller allowable payroll, compared to competitors, for year 3; and so on. Now the athletic department is way more united because if we are hitting the salary cap ceiling and our star pole vaulter is getting an illegal side deal, everyone else can be impacted by that rather than just the track and field team.

In turn, it’s not even about how much money to blow like the warriors or clippers virtually paying for a second roster w/ how large their luxury tax bills became—they are clouding the program’s future with stricter, additive punishments that would damage us in a multitude of ways. The 20 cent fine for each dollar over is just one way i found that they could harm us. Who knows wtf else they might do w/ the IRS docking us or potential returns of postseason bans or coach suspensions.

It immediately requires us to coordinate money across 20 or so varsity teams in a way that’s beyond impractical for those spending near the max of the salary cap. All while having an antitrust exemption. Scary hours!

I believe the B1G was at roughly 80mil per team in revenue and ACC at 50 mil.

With the changes in the CFP payout there’s no longer performance bonuses to my understanding. So that disparity will grow

It'll grow significantly when the next round of deals comes around. The ACC will get less per program and the B1G and SEC will both have already renegotiated larger deals. It'll be $50mil/year easily..this is a 2 tier system and we won't be in the A tier.

Also, the ACC will no longer have any reason to keep the "bigger schools" happy since our leverage to leave will be gone and probably will take unequal revenue sharing back off the table.
 
This whole thing makes me wanna puke. No matter where you look in this country (and a lot of the world), these things always end up working out in favor of the powerful rich folks who can bribe the politicians without repercussion. This place is bought and paid for.

Not always - my industry could be described as: "naive trusting rich people get screwed."
