At the center of the talks Tuesday and Wednesday is the conferences' desire to close a cap circumvention loophole to prohibit schools from exceeding the revenue-share cap by using "associated entities," such as corporate sponsors and multimedia rights partners, to redirect athletic department funds to their rosters. College administrators say an adjustment to the provision is essential to provide a stricter cap, as the latest version of the bill raises the athlete revenue-share cap from $21.3 million to $48.8 million, a move that, while aligning more with the current market, must be paired with a hard cap.

"We can't create a new floor," Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork told Yahoo Sports from Big Ten football media days on Wednesday. "We need a ceiling."

Not quite sure that’s true. Notre Dame is still apart of the ACC for every sport not named football; and while football is the moneymaker, i can’t see how an immediate ascension into the B1G for all non-football teams, besides hockey, wouldn’t violate the law.

Moreover, I’d imagine trying to do 5 years as an independent in so many sports would be like casting a suicidal-athletic-department death wish

The other sports are irrelevant. They could join in football and leave the other sports in ACC or go independent in other sports with schedule agreement with B1G for them...

The conference can treat them like a full member just without technically becoming one for 5 yrs after all. Wouldn't get some benefits.... Not a big deal

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – As part of the ongoing agreement, Notre Dame and the Atlantic Coast Conference announced the five football games that will be played annually between the Fighting Irish and members of the league from 2026 through 2037.

The agreement continues a partnership that began in 2014, in which the ACC’s 14 football member schools play the Fighting Irish an average of five times per year. By the end of the 2037 season, Notre Dame will have played 120 games against ACC opponents, beginning with the 2014 football season.

Basketball, in its totality, is an eight-figure annual expense. Dwarfed by football, yeup; irrelevant to conference realignment; nope.

The bill isn’t even going for a vote so it’s moot now; but the italicized isn’t “not big deal,” nor would it be easy to pull off…you’re asking half the league to take road trips for on/off for 5 years to ND during non conference play in an era wherein those types of games have evaporated unless at neutral sites or during branded tournaments. And that’s just the dynamics of a single sport.

ND isn’t chomping at the bits to join the B1G; because, they prefer their football-independence. They have an exclusive broadcast partner (NBC) and exclusive rivalries they do not want threatened by a 9-game B1G conference schedule.

It was Notre Dame who pushed for Stanford (an annual rival) and Cal Berkley to join the league in 2023. They are never not going to play Navy and Army. And they aren’t going to punt on playing Pittsburgh and Boston College as often as possible either. They play FSU or Miami in 8 out of the ten years moving forward from 2028 to 2037 as well; while having a game scheduled w/ Clemson every year from 2027 to 2038.
