I don't understand how when these TV rights deals are renegotiated Miami and FSU and Clemson don't sue the BIG 10 and SEC along with ESPN and FOX when their deals are not equal to the ACC.

This is the ladder pull of the century. If this had all come out before realignment maybe I could understand to some degree. But you allowed all these teams to realign and THEN stopped the music. For real, f*** these people.

What does that have to do with anything?

There is one set allowance of cash to be distributed across all sports. So a payout to women’s soccer is money that can’t be used to pay football. Whatever subsidies a university may receive is irrelevant to this equation.

Or maybe you’re just suggesting that since universities get “free” money from the government in the form of subsidies that means they can just dish out cash left and right to everyone on every sport. If that’s what you’re suggesting I hope you realize that the inevitable result to this approach is that already out of control tuition rates will just skyrocket.

That doesn’t really matter in the House. There are countless examples of popular legislation that just dies in the House, including on issues that the electorate cares a lot more about than college sports. ****, there are members in the House who would vote “no” on this just because they don’t want to vote for something that originated in the Senate without any tweaks in the House. People don’t seem to understand just how dysfunctional the House is.

They’ll get the last two Republican senators to flip then it'll be just a matter of time whether or not this thing gets passed via Johnson reconvening the House pre-election (doubtful) or just in the lame-duck period which has always been the most dangerous time as i said prior.

Hope it kinda just dies in the wash of the midterms. I’m shocked the Dems at large aren’t against it on labor concerns. Legit the only unified opposition I see is our Florida senators because of the BS must stay in conference crap. Miami and FSU "have nowhere to go in the foreseeable future"

Two quotes from Greg Sankey after the additions of Oklahoma and Texas in July 2022:

Translation: Of course we're paying attention with regard to further expansion. We have no intention of being sued, so those schools interested in joining the SEC will first need to be free from their current conference obligations. If/when that happens, we'll absolutely have a plan in place.

In the foreseeable future, they do not see any addition of Florida State or Miami."

yeah that lawsuit miami had against the ACC precludes this moment. Remember when we voted with FSU and UNC to not allow SMU/Stanford/Cal into the ACC as well? **** shame we got outvoted on that one. Remember when we added UNC alum former ACC commissioner John Swofford and his son into our lawsuit against the ACC? Yeah I member.

The Big Ten's current television contract ends in 2030. The SEC has a 2030 look-in within its contract. On the heels of lawsuits from Florida State and Miami, the ACC established exit fees that drop below $100 million within the next two years, setting up a potential jockeying of programs lobbying for membership in the SEC and Big Ten — the two richest college conferences in America.

The bill's expansion provision makes it more difficult.

It caps the number of schools in a power conference at 19 and requires power league schools wanting to move to another power conference to operate as an independent for three years. Bill authors reduced the previous five-year probationary period to three ahead of Thursday's vote and added a termination clause (called a "sunset" concept) to the probationary period — it ends within six years of the bill's enactment.

The change did not satisfy many programs in the state of Florida that want to have the flexibility to move to the SEC or Big Ten, or even the ACC. South Florida officials have also expressed concerns with their lawmakers. The Bulls, one of the more well-resourced Group of Six programs, are working to keep open a wider path to a power conference.

The conference cap significantly limits any movement from schools in the ACC and Big 12 to the SEC (currently 16 schools) and Big Ten (currently 18). The 19 figure is an odd number for conferences that usually have an even number of members for scheduling purposes. It provides the Big Ten with a single spot for the potential addition of the most valuable school outside of the Big Ten and SEC: Notre Dame. The Irish remain committed, for now, to continue as a football independent.

Also, hilarious that USF is playing so much 4D chess that they understand it’s possible the big XII doesn’t want them and they’d rather be in the ACC anyways, so they are upset that two+ ACC schools cannot leave to the SEC or B1G because that’d make it harder for them to join lmao.
