Props to Julio Frenk!

Julio better buckle up because supposedly a football player from a small school in Pennsylvania just died of covid
That's right. And incidentally, the football programs for that schools entire conference has been previously shut down as a preventive measure. Not even fall practices.

No one said college students are completely immune to Covid. Unfortunately, he was one of the .006% at risk.

This thread will obviously spiral into a debate about the virus but I will say this about Frenk on this front- dude not only has the pressure of his medical background heightening the personal reputational/career consequences of him being right or wrong on this but he also has his predecessor as now a freakin' elected politician essentially standing outside of campus and undermining his position.

You can agree or disagree with Frenk about all of this but I don't think anyone expected him to be as decisive as he's been.

Exactly. You and I may disagree on some things, but you are honest and fair.

ToiletBowlMagic, on the other hand, is still chasing me around because I mocked him in a thread once or a thousand times. JoeCane too.

" Frenk may very well suck at everything being a major university president entails but I don't think there's much doubt his medical background was a major asset during this pandemic. Whether or not it buys him more time is yet to be determined. "

Do a better job of gettting your facts straight the next time. You make a claim as if it is a proven fact with no attribution, no research, and without even knowing what you’re talking about. Nothing is confirmed about his death.

Please see below for a statement from Brother Tony Baginski, FSC, Principal of Central Catholic regarding the passing of Jamain Stephens.

“When we heard the news of Jamain Stephens’ death, we as a community were devastated. He was well loved by everyone in our community, and in an effort to get the news out about his death in a timely manner, we mistakenly attributed his death without official confirmation on cause of death. We had obtained the information about his passing from close friends of Jamain, who reached out to us with the news. We apologize for this error, and this information has since been removed from our Facebook announcement dated 9/8/2020. At this time, we do not have official confirmation on his cause of death. Jamain was the embodiment of everything a Central Catholic student should be: kind, gentle, giving, faithful and a friend to all. We pray for Jamain and his friends and family during this terrible time.”

Gotta love fake news, the team this dude played for hasn't been on campus since March. Football had nothing to do with this individual getting covid......if he even had it in the first place

He didn’t. Read the posts above.

Now where can I campaign for Frenk to get a lifetime contract?

Yep.

What "evidence"? How is he a "figurehead"? I don't think you know the meaning of certain words that you used.

Frenk has been a terrible university president for five years. As a president of one of a few-dozen P5 programs choosing to play football, yes, he was interviewed.

He'll stay on a bit longer, but then he needs to move on.

Covid-19 didn't make Frenk a better university president. He's the worst UM has ever had.

Nope....he is still better than Shalalalalala....what I left in the toilet last night was better than Shalalalalala

Gotta love the mainstream media....any sliver to try and back up their chosen position....makes one long for the day when journalists told us the news and we used our brains to determine how we felt about it rather than being TOLD what to feel

Oh boy don't like it? Don't read it...sheesh. Too much whining from people these days...I read that and it hurt my feelings waaaaa! Grow up and grow a pair would ya.

Need to give credit where it's due - Julio Frenk not only helped save Miami football this year, but he was a leading advocate for both the ACC and NCAA to find a way to play this fall.

As a medical professional, I thought for sure his stance would be highly conservative and lean heavily towards delay/cancellation until a vaccine was available. All evidence shows that he did exactly the opposite and the ACC consulted his medical opinion to help implement a plan for the season to take place. More importantly, he became a figurehead for sports advocacy that would allow for safe return to the field; taking interviews with nearly every major news outlet including CNN, MSNBC and CNBC.

In the coming months and years I'm certain we'll hear stories of how Frenk stepped up and helped to deliver a college football season while keeping players, fans and students as safe as possible.
