I definitely would. He showed flashes his first 2 years. In 9 games his first 2 years he had 16tds and only 2 picks. Reed hasn’t been great as a passer eitherweigman has been terrible. i liked what i saw from him against us last year so i began the season paying attention to him as a potentially draftable prospect, and he's been straight garbage. not sure if it's the injury lingering or what, but i would not take a chance on him.
Proven QBs usually don’t enter the portal. Most of the time it’s guys that was highly ranked that showed flashes or that’s looking to get pt. Last cycle had about 5 or 6 guys that was starters and had some success but usually you don’t get that manyMaybe this is a hot take: but someone like a Cam Ward coming in was already a proven commodity & had time actually playing... Bringing in people just because they have potential would be a mistake imo.... bring in someone else that has already done it & we know they are good, just looking for the next step.... we have plenty of projects already.
For sure. Agree that it's much harder to do. Like D$ and plenty of others have said what Cam has done has laid a blueprint for others to at least see what it can be.... I just would rather start there & then go from there. Someone like a John Mateer is much more attractive than an air noland at first glance to me.... obviously plenty of intangibles and other items to iron out too..... Cam's a baller playstyle wise but his demeanor & leadership shouldn't be look past.Proven QBs usually don’t enter the portal. Oh yea no doubt. I’m not in favor of taking a young qb who hasn’t played. More so a guy like weigman or Arnold. Former 5 stars who have actually played before and they have upside. But I have been impressed with mateer and he is another Texas kid. We need to scour that place more. For sure. Agree that it's much harder to do. Agreed... Would also be nice f you sign the right weigman/arnold like guy early enough to actually help in recruiting hs/portal.... i know D$ has commented about wanting a 2 year guy, understandable, but if they came in and had success year 1 would they stick around? If Ward somehow had another year of eligibilty I wouldnt expect him to stay........ (yes Texas qb recruiting needs more eyes, @Memnon was right again)Oh yea no doubt. I think they would because they basically have no draft stock right now. Cam was way more productive and had a draftble gradeAgreed... True, i guess if you got someone like a Mateer right now he is starting out with no draft grade that I know about at least...... don't need to go into the entire discussio on here for the 1000000x time... but we need someone imo.... current room isn't the answerI think they would because they basically have no draft stock right now. Titanshope: Weigman has been playing hurt, give this kid a chance to get healthy.weigman has been terrible. i liked what i saw from him against us last year so i began the season paying attention to him as a potentially draftable prospect, and he's been straight garbage. not sure if it's the injury lingering or what, but i would not take a chance on him.

FSU went 2 high safeties all game and never adjusted even when we gashed them the whole 1st half. It was like Norvell was willing to get pounded into dust but not get embarrassingly blown out but that more or less happened anyway even though we settled for 3 FGs.Cmon man. The defensive schemes we’ve played against have played a large role and the “where’s our run game” narrative was nothing more than the passing game being so off the charts that the running game pales by comparison.
Might be just a little too crazy lol.... I already think you will have a hard enough time keeping talent in the QB room if you brought in people like that.... Mateer, for sure, he starts for hopefully 2 years & you get to develop a nickel, other talent.... I would still rather develop incoming hs recruits then have to be portal dire every year.... would just be nice to get to a point where we arent relying on incoming freshman to produce at QB (all positions too would be even better)Mateer is a redshirt sophomore. Don’t know how early kids get draft grades but it would make sense if he doesn’t have one since Ward was the starter last year.
But if the idea is to look at the blueprint, Mateer is a pass first dual threat (2100 yards passing 575 yards rushing) , also played high school ball in Texas, and has an good TD:INT ratio (3:1).
It’s a coincidence that he happens to be at the same school that we took Ward from, but it works out well because Ward knows him.
If he finishes out the season (WSU currently 7-1, believe it or not) on the same level he is now, he’ll probably get a mid round grade, which is about where Ward was when he left Wazzu. Great season at UM and he also plays into the first round and gets drafted. Ideally our defense is fixed next year we actually have an overall better team than we have now. Bring in a high quality dual threat QB (even if he doesn’t have Cams ceiling) and we are a lock to win 11+ games again and make the playoffs.
Now if you really want to get crazy, you get Mateer to start and bring in Barnett III from JMU (sky high ceiling). Barnetts a sophomore so give him a RS and let him learn the offense. Mateer is starter, Williams/Poff as backup. Barnett starts 2026-27 and we are cooking with gas.
100% exactly what I meant when I posted. It's the reverse of seeing 7-9 men stacked in the box, which dictates pass. I'm with you thinking Norvell did this to keep the beat down minimized. Most coaches would've started creeping the safeties, then boom, long TD pass. They never did that so we kept handing it off.FSU went 2 high safeties all game and never adjusted even when we gashed them the whole 1st half. Novell's strategy insured losing but minimized the point spread because so much time came off the clock. 40 rushes and 32 passes. We only had 8 possessions I think.100% exactly what I meant when I posted. It's the reverse of seeing 7-9 men stacked in the box, which dictates pass. For some of our "fans" though, it's a sign that our passing game is failing.
Correct. And we scored on 7 of them.Novell's strategy insured losing but minimized the point spread because so much time came off the clock. 40 rushes and 32 passes. We only had 8 possessions I think.
