I put together a first pass at our projected depth chart given the current composition of the roster. Obviously things can and will change as we continue to add players but figured this would be a good visual representation of what we have in the boat and what we still need:

PG - Acaden Lewis/Quin Burger

Thoughts - Lewis is an all-ACC caliber PG that can also be featured off ball. Berger is a sneaky underrated add and was the backup PG for a Bucknell team that won the Patriot League and can potentially give you competent minutes in a pinch. Guys like Dante Allen and Shelton Henderson can and will handle the ball a bit, so I'm not convinced that we necessarily need another guy here.

SG - Dante Allen

Allen is our best POA defender, so I've slotted him here for now, but I can also very easily see Coach Lucas starting the year with Henderson at the 2 and Allen in the 6th man role. Regardless of permutation, we 100% need another body here that can provide ~15 consistent minutes per night and be a threat from the perimeter.

SF - Shelton Henderson/Marcus Allen

This is still where I believe Shelton's most natural position is and where he'll end up getting drafted next summer. Allen is a wildcard given what he's coming back from, but it sounds like contributing 12-15 minutes per game isn't out of the realm of expectation and he's someone that should be able defend, rebound and be an effective floor spacer (40% and 39% in first two seasons, albeit on lower volume).

PF - DeSean Goode/Caleb Gaskins/Chris Birden

The position on the roster that I feel best about right now. Goode is the perfect fit in between Henderson and Cyril and provides scoring, toughness on the boards and a threat to step out and hit the 3. I have Gaskins as our first player off the bench and he has the versatility to play on the wing as well given his athleticism and developing perimeter game. Like Goode I fully expect him to bludgeon teams inside as well. Birden will assuredly redshirt and be nothing more than a practice body. We'll play Henderson and Allen here some too, so I'm totally ok not taking another player at his spot.

C - Somto Cyril

Cyril will be one of, if not the best rim protecting centers in the country going into the year, but we desperately need to add backup center that can be consistently playable and effectively eat up 15-20 minutes a game. This is where Eric Dibami would have fit in perfectly.

Overall thoughts: We have a 7 man rotation at the moment, so rounding out the roster with a backup center and reserve guard who can shoot should be the biggest priority for the staff at the moment. Adding a couple of younger, developmental guys at the backend of the roster wouldn't hurt either.

I like your jumbo starting 5 option.. I had not thought of a lineup like that (Lewis / Shelton / Goode / Gaskins / Cyril)... that's great height and should kill on rebounds... then you bring Allen in to speed things up with tempo....

Definitely need another combo guard. I dont share the same enthusiasm you have for Berger (i think thats a practice body and garbage minutes).

With respect to Marcus Allen, I would love to see it. Either way, I think Gaskins will play a ton, and the 3 is his more natural fit imo. So even if Marcus doesnt comeback productively, i think were fine.

Agree on the backup big. Maybe we hit the Euro route again and hope for the best. An atheltic 5 who can also play the four would be ideal. Someone like Carey wouldve slotted in well imo.

I'm not expecting much from Berger. That said, he played 17 min a game for a solid mid-major program, so I think he's a better option than Laboy/Kee who never played.

are we getting nervous with 5 spots still to fill including a possible starting shooting guard, quality backup Big??

Been nervous since it started being reported who we have interest in/they have interest in us.

We can win a lot of games with what the depth chart looks like in this thread but we will be thinner than some of L’s teams and that would be disappointing.

Hard to take your opinion overly serious when it’s barely May and you trashed the Lucas hire

More signings have to be coming.

Couldn't even run a legit practice scrimmage with what we have (what's the current number of players, 9?).

Believe you have me mistaken for someone else. Not only did I never trash the Lucas hire I was one the very few on here saying how fired up I was to get an up and comer from a big time program like Duke

I clearly have you confused for the 80% of the folks here that were convinced he’d fail so my apologies

Essentially, the roster needs another SG who is known for making catch and shot jump shots, SF who can create his own shot along with 2 more bigs for depth at the 4 and 5.
Personally, I see Birden taking a redshirt year this season.
It will be interesting where those spots get filled as there is still talent available in the high school recruiting along with the transfer portal and international signing.

We don’t need another 3

This could easily be a top 10 team heading into the season (depending on how Jai finishes with the portal).
