I put together a first pass at our projected depth chart given the current composition of the roster. Obviously things can and will change as we continue to add players but figured this would be a good visual representation of what we have in the boat and what we still need:
PG - Acaden Lewis/Quin Burger
Thoughts - Lewis is an all-ACC caliber PG that can also be featured off ball. Berger is a sneaky underrated add and was the backup PG for a Bucknell team that won the Patriot League and can potentially give you competent minutes in a pinch. Guys like Dante Allen and Shelton Henderson can and will handle the ball a bit, so I'm not convinced that we necessarily need another guy here.
SG - Dante Allen
Allen is our best POA defender, so I've slotted him here for now, but I can also very easily see Coach Lucas starting the year with Henderson at the 2 and Allen in the 6th man role. Regardless of permutation, we 100% need another body here that can provide ~15 consistent minutes per night and be a threat from the perimeter.
SF - Shelton Henderson/Marcus Allen
This is still where I believe Shelton's most natural position is and where he'll end up getting drafted next summer. Allen is a wildcard given what he's coming back from, but it sounds like contributing 12-15 minutes per game isn't out of the realm of expectation and he's someone that should be able defend, rebound and be an effective floor spacer (40% and 39% in first two seasons, albeit on lower volume).
PF - DeSean Goode/Caleb Gaskins/Chris Birden
The position on the roster that I feel best about right now. Goode is the perfect fit in between Henderson and Cyril and provides scoring, toughness on the boards and a threat to step out and hit the 3. I have Gaskins as our first player off the bench and he has the versatility to play on the wing as well given his athleticism and developing perimeter game. Like Goode I fully expect him to bludgeon teams inside as well. Birden will assuredly redshirt and be nothing more than a practice body. We'll play Henderson and Allen here some too, so I'm totally ok not taking another player at his spot.
C - Somto Cyril
Cyril will be one of, if not the best rim protecting centers in the country going into the year, but we desperately need to add backup center that can be consistently playable and effectively eat up 15-20 minutes a game. This is where Eric Dibami would have fit in perfectly.
Overall thoughts: We have a 7 man rotation at the moment, so rounding out the roster with a backup center and reserve guard who can shoot should be the biggest priority for the staff at the moment. Adding a couple of younger, developmental guys at the backend of the roster wouldn't hurt either.
