Progress on new dorms.

when i was there thats what they told us. from down there and just moved back, but i haven't been to campus in a while (pain in the *** and no real reason to go there since its been nearly 9 years since i graduated)

Redo everything inside + redo everything outside + altering bones = Better off going new construction

The simulation hospital is truly 1st class. It opened a semester earlier than projected. My cohort had our simulations in there for our last year of nursing school. I was a commuter, so I never stayed on campus in the dorms but I did hear plenty of bad things about the dorms. The STEM program recieved a 100 million dollar donation from the Frost's about a year ago so a new engineering building wouldn't be a surprise. I think the science building is also in line for a revamp in a few years. The school is making the necessary strides to remain a top academia. Regarding UM lowering the tuition, I would have to see it in order for me to believe it. UM is too fee happy. These people charge for everything! $500 parking passes for the year. I use to get charged an additional $500 just for being a nursing student.

$500?! I think it was $50 from 1990-1994.

I'm pretty sure M-P has some sort of historical designation, and that they cant demolish it and build something new.

Otherwise I'd beleve they would, I doubt they're saving much money gutting it and renovating
 
MP was the worst/best experience. some dudes on our floor broke the water fountains to the point where the RA refused to fix it lol. dumbass pike dudes

I was responding to someone who mentioned the Towers being reno'ed.

Mahoney did not have a basement, but at the end of the building from the first floor there were steps or stairs going down into a concreted area.
A lot of sh^^ went on down there.

One night I left the keys to my car, wallet, and glasses on a side table and went to bed.Living on the first floor of Mahoney.
Seems that some rambling hippie guy, jimmied the door, took my sh^^ and left.
I got up and thought what the Fu**, was I too drunk to misplace my stuff. Obviously a panic mode to find my stuff.
Turns out that night I get a call that night, from the Campus cops saying they arrested a vagrant with my wallet, i.d, etc.
Got my stuff, but a couple of hundred dollars was gone, and they said they found this winner, passed out under the steps of Mahoney with 3 or 4 wallets, etc. Stoned out of his mind, with no given address.
This after shutting down credit cards, etc. Needless to say it was not a good day.
Got a handy baseball bat after that......LOL

Mahoney-Pearson absolutely has a basement. When you are on Ponce, you turn in by the space between the two buildings, and you go down a hill into the basement. Now, the basement might ONLY be under the center part of both dorms, but it is there.

I do know that the trash chutes went down into the basement. I am not sure if they also did deliveries in the basement.

Since the 1980s (or maybe earlier) the UM Housing Department had offices in the first floor of Eaton and storage in the basement of Mahoney-Pearson. They stored all the beds, mattresses, refrigerators, stoves, sofas/chairs, and lamps in the basement of M-P. In my freshman year, I worked for the Housing Department, as they paid better than any other work-study job, and I rode on the truck that delivered furniture to various apartments and dorms. Also, whenever an undergrad hosted a high school student overnight, we would deliver a spare vinyl mattress.

Since (at least) the 1980s. Was over $100 back for the year back then (at least for on-campus).

Some people in the Law School bought the commuter tag, but a lot of people paid residents in Coral Gables to park on the streets in front of their houses. I was in Catholic Law Students Association, so I was able to park at St. Augustine's.

the new buildings will be awesome and an update is long overdue. But those towers are iconic. It's always been the view of the towers and the fountain in lake Osceola that represented the campus of the U.
