Pretty good article about Charlie Strong

Saban was horrible at his first power 5 job Michigan State. He was better at LSU and he's killing it at Bama!

Do you just make chit up?

Google George Perles and the scandal that preceded him.

By the common logic on this board a good coach can win anywhere so I don't care what happened before he got there. Saban sucked balls until year 5 when he went 9-2 and quickly left for LSU. Would you hire coach Saban post MSU?

Again, do you research anything or just make chit up? LSU was pretty bad before Saban arrived. DiNardo won 6 total games in the 2 seasons before Saban.

Perhaps you need to realize that MSU in 1995 or LSU in 2000 were very different from Miami in 2015.

Keep porsting.

I wouldn't be surprised if it TEXAS that was leaking all these Strong rumors.... pushing him to listen to other schools.

The man would be pretty stupid to walk away from that cash, but Texas would be probably willing to negotiate some sort of agreement to payoff the coaches as agreed upon just for Strong to go...

They don't want him there.

Lmao @ clowns on here talking about recruting classes. He just got mollywopped by iowa state. A school qitha bunch of 2 stars and kids with no offers. He cant coach period. And his recruiting class is *** hes 7th in the state of texas right now lmao

People say talent but all texas recruiting classes in the last 4 years are much better than tcu, baylor, oklahomas state, kansas state, texas tech but most these teams arent just beating texas they are blowing them out lol

Hes a ****ty coach just stop he might not even make a bowl game

I did this w/ corch Golden, so I might as well back up your point, so all these discussion can stop about a corch who should not be here!

Again, outside of Texas A&M and OU, in this year, Texas smoked other BIG12 teams recruiting classes.

In 2014, He inherited the No. 3, the No. 2, and the No. 24th ranked classes in the nation. That means he would've inherrited the No. 1, the No. 1, and the No. 3 ranked classes in the Big 12.

Now, go back and look at what Golden had at his disposal; go back and see how he recruited against the rest of the ACC, and you will find ridiculous similarities. The fact is, Golden did well at an AAC school, and when he got to the big time, he stunk it up. It had nothing to do w/ talent, he just couldn't coach em up at stiffer competition. Strong is showing the same similarities. He inherited talent, recruited more talent, better than anyone in the Big12 outside of Texas A&M for the last two years, and he's crapping in the bed.

Get this loser of a corch out of my face!

Bro your crazy... I'm a huge Butch Davis supporter. But if you are talking about numbers look at Butch Davis 4 years NC then look at Strong' 4 years at UL.

At TCU, Gary Patterson dominated the mountain west similar to how strong dominated the big east.

Patterson then went 7-6 and 4-8 in his first two years in the big 12. If you don't have a QB in that conference you can't win.

in 2013 if we were considering hiring Patterson, we would probably be concerned about a lot of the same things people (including myself) are concerned about now with strong. (No QB, can't win against a real conference, etc.)

Patterson then found his QB his offense started humming and he is back in business...

I'm not saying that strong can make a massive jump like Patterson did in year three

There are some things that are indefensible for strong right now. He fired his OC after one game. His defense got significantly worse in year 2 (after getting soginificantly better than his predecessors) and his recruiting class is a joke

As someone who thinks he can win at Miami, you can only really hope that the last two years are an anomaly, and part of his building of that program against their competition similar to Patterson and his adjustments to the b12

Hopefully strong hasn't lost his ability to recruit and develop south Florida players and with the right QB, he can win playoff / New Years 6 bowl games

Patterson was bringing a mid-major program and roster into a Power 5 conference. Strong walked into one of the most powerful jobs in the country.

I don't think the transition is comparable.

Valid point. Maybe I should have focused more on the fact that without a good QB, Patterson struggled mightily against better competition. Then he found a heisman caliber QB and started winning again. I can't say how much patterson has upgraded the entire TCU roster since 2013.

Can we for certain say that strong can't continue to develop his current players and get siginificantly better in 2016 / 17 at Texas?

I don't know

Patterson struggled because his offensive system was outdated. He "found" his amazing QB on his roster. He was a WR at TCU.

His team turned around when he installed a new offensive system that allowed him to compete against teams with better talent than he had. The Air Raid has been a great equalizer for teams without access to the talent of their competition.

I don't want strong but he had a top 10 recruiting class at Texas last year. He landed the davis kid from booker t washington.

To be fair, 6-7 in year one is nothing and I don't want to look into it too much.

This year UT is 4-6. They should have tied the game against Cal and had all of the momentum and they should have forced OT against Okie State.

Beating OU was a very good win. Being shutout by Iowa State is ugly. Losing to TCU the way they did is ugly. Losing to Notre Dame the way they did is ugly. Even the WVU loss is not pretty.

So despite a great win over OU and a very good game against Okie State, there are also some ugly losses that cannot be ignored. I haven't watched every Texas game, but I do know that offense doesn't have great weapons, but that doesn't excuse the defense for being so poor. Last year his defense was top 25 in yards and I believe top 30 in points.

This year the defense has regressed tremendously. I would be very nervous if Strong was hired and hiring a great offensive staff would be required for me to believe there would be any success. I would trust him with the defense despite this years regression, but offense would need major attention.

Source tells @AnwarRichardson that Texas coach Charlie Strong "has become irritated" with reports linking him to Miami. He doesn't want it.

Given the other names being thrown around, I'd be OK with any discussion started about Miami hiring Cristobal or Strong as the next head coach being moved into one thread filed under trash.

Bro....are you being serious right now? Are you really comparing what Charlie Strong has done at a mid-major school vs. what Butch did at a P5 school? And I'm the crazy one??

The comparison was what Strong is doing now at a P5 school. The comparison was to Al Golden, since he, by all accounts, did well at a school that was not known for football. At least at Louisville, that boy Bobby Petrino had Louisville humming when he was there b4 Strong. Temple was a nobody, and Al Golden made them respectable. But what happened when Golden got to the big leagues? Flopped. So far, Strong is flopping at big boy competition. Maybe he'll turn it around, but talent is not the issue at Texas.

Anyways, it don't even matter what any of our opinions are of dude, b/c apparently he's getting frustrated with his name being linked to this job and seems to not want his name attached to us.
