Pretty fair take from SVP at ESPN

Cliff notes? I can't watch it from work, but the headline is condescending as ****. We care about winning. Winning, Swagger, and Reality are not mutually exclusive.

I thought his trashing fans and players for still throwing up the "U" because it "means nothing" these days was out of line. What's his point? So if Florida State had an extended run of bad seasons, their fans should stop doing the Tomahawk Chop? He did redeem himself a little at the end though.

It's a good video and definitely worth watching. His comment about the U hand gesture was ridiculous though (as noted, should Texas fans not be able to do the Hook 'Em sign anymore? Were Gator fans supposed to stop doing the chop when they sucked?)

But otherwise pretty good.

It doesn't. "Throwing up the U" started in 2007 with that Soulja Boy $h!t, during a phuckin' 5-7 season. ***** "throwing up the U", it's time to start throwing up Ws.

With a screen name like that I expect much more than nonsense like this.

Will neg as soon as I get my negging rights back.

FSU game inspired first man to throw up the U

Ben is correct, throwing up the U was started by the cheer leading squad in response to the Seminole Chop. It started back in 91. My roommate at the U was a cheerleader and confirmed this is true, that his squad started this.

I was ****ed when I watched it at first and in the end he made sense. Basically said that other schools have gone through the same process (alabama, etc) and that If we get the right person in we will be back. Location, players in the area and facilities. It was better than I expected.

I couldn't agree more about the stadium and the perspective on the OB. I hate when people say it is because of the stadium. Go look at the 01 season, the games weren't sold out, even against top 25 teams.

I actually like SVP despite his occasional thin skin about his employer's $EC bias and constant slurping. This had me initially worried though when I saw "reality". I thought he might repeat the narrative that too many media clowns parrot about us needing to be "realistic" about NEVER returning to greatness. I'm glad Scotty here chose the sane path and went a different direction with his commentary.

You must be 15 years old right? Because you surely haven't been watching or paying attention to college football before 2007.

He basically described what a lot of people on these boards constantly ask for: the laying of a foundation with long term impact. I agree with a lot of what he said - not the "hollow" stuff - but he described the process that needs to be taken to develop a strong program with longevity. Microwave options don't turn out the dynasty-esque results we are all hoping for. It requires time, sound recruiting, and the pressure from a coach and staff every year to improve performance on the field, build new state-of-the-art facilities, and nurture the winning culture we all know, love and desperately miss.
