Preston Dewey SPOTLIGHT

I always get excited whenever a new QB is on campus and ready to compete. You never know how they will turn out but we do need some new blood and a new chance at being elite at that position again.

And it sure doesn't hurt that he has been coached for 2 years by Ty Detmer a former Heisman winning QB. Kid played in a pro style offense and should be able to come in and compete.

I still expect a redshirt for him, but you never know how young kids will respond untill they're thrown into the fire. Who around here believed Ken Dorsey would take over for Kenny Kelley and never relinquish the job? I'm not saying Dewey is another Dorsey, but I'm hoping for that kind of QB.

I hope Dewey doesn't play for three years. Not because I wish poorly on him, but because Morris/Williams play that well to hold him off.

That's very important.

And yes, Kevin Olsen is probably a better quarterback, but right now, if you get a 4* QB prospect to come in early, that's big news every time.

Kid is already bing crowned by the legion before playing a game
not cool and unfair to him

Exactly. It started with KW and has happened to a lot of big time recruits we have had, including WW and AB. this crowning of these kids has not worked out well with us, be patient.

who is kevin olsen?

Greg's little brother.

5 star QB and top 20 prospect next year and i think he is a program changer, like a Vince Young, Cam Newton, Matt Stafford, Matt Leinart at QB. Olsen next year and Sony Michel in 2014 are the two biggest recruits for Miami in the last 10 years. They are heavy Miami leans and if we whiff on both we might not be relevant for another 5-6 years.

all ive heard about sony is hes canes all the way

i gotta believe we have a good shot at G-reg's little brother

Huge that Dewey's coming in early.

And as far as Olsen and Sony Michael go, Golden's relentless attitude will put us in a great spot for them, especially if they're already leans towards us.

lots of guys are big time with the canes until their senior years when they start getting the attention of the other big boy schools...let it play out.

Bakas always says kids tell him Miami is their dream school. These same kids probably tell the OU Scout guy that OU is their dream school. I have a feeling a lot of those kids blow smoke up these reporters asses.

For guys like Duke, Miami truly is their dream school. If your true "dream school" offers you, you are taking that offer no matter what.

Things are a little bit slow right now right on the recruiting front due to the Christmas break, so I think it would be a great time to look at a player we have committed and talk about what we are getting. Now you might think Duke Johnson would be the first player I want to talk about but no it's QB Preston Dewey.

I really like Dewey, he is different then a lot of our recruits. He doesn't come from any national rated high school. A matter of fact according to MaxPreps his high school is 10,690th in the country. This means 2 things; his high school isn't very good at football and we have a lot of high schools in this country, but hey Ty Detmer is his coach and most Canes fans can't forget the religious curse of 1990, so I would considered him well coached.

At 6'3' 205 he is a little taller than Stephen Morris but also weighs a little less. He has a good arm and is an accurate passer. I can't wait to see him at the Under Armour All-America game on Thursday, January 5th in St Petersburg, Florida. The great thing about quarterbacks is they are a bit more of a mystery than most of your other players. The book has yet to be written on Presten Dewey at Miami but with each quarterback we bring in we are closer to getting the one that will return the U back to Quarterback U.
