Prediction on year Cristobal takes over.

I'd settle for paying Alex Mirabal right now. His OL is bullying OhSt.
Yea but is that due to better recruiting during Marios tenure? If thats the case just hire anyone who can coach a position group so we can just lose to more talented teams. We need to stop the poaching in sfla at we would know Mario is better at that than Manny for sure

We have a better chance of signing Jimmy Johnson than we do Mario Cristobal.

Whos going to pay him?

It’d surely take a commitment from the university. Honestly what they gave Richt isn’t that far off from what Mario is making. It’s not like we’re FAU. But yes, he would have to want to come and Miami would want to have him. Again, his history here would be the only reason I think it can get done. Weird things happen if you really wanna come home.

He has the money to back him there, unless he loves UM like that it would be HC suicide for him. He would have to compete for recruits vs Saban OSU and Clemson
He already competes for those recruits but he won't come here because with the more succes he has he outdoors himself from us. He knows the challenges we face from within. Not worth fighting all the rest of the country AND our own administration.

Fair enough. I know Mario is from Miami, is a fomer Cane, and maybe Miami HC is his dream job. But I don't see anyone or a group stepping up and paying that bill.

Rumor was the Soffers were going to pay the 10 million buyout for Cristobal. It sounds like a lot of money but put it in perspective.

Miami was on the hook to pay Richt 4.5 million, then the school was going to give him another 1.5 mil for an OC. So that's 6 mil per year between HC and OC with Richt. Cristobals salary at the time Richt retired was 2.7 million per year. Let's say he got a bump to 3 million for Miami. No state income tax, so that actually comes out to roughly 750k more per year. Diaz's salary is around 3.5 million. Add on top of that the 4 million that Miami paid Temple to buyout Diazs contract. Diaz salary plus buyout = 7.5 million. In practical terms, the cost to buyout Cristobal would really have been around 4-5 million. Miami would have made nearly that amount with a NY6 bowl appearance so it could have easily paid for itself within 2 years. Blake James scuttled the deal because he predetermined that he wanted Diaz.

Yikes. Does Blake James really have that much power? Sort of a tongue in cheek question but I would think Mario would have probably been the better hire. At the end of the day it does not really matter. Three to four teams actually compete, the rest are cannon fodder.

100% agree... but a part of recruiting is having a bunch of guys with resumes... especially on the build up. If Manny wins 9 games this year, I doubt he's going anywhere. At that point the best thing to do is to surround him with as many quality coaches as possible. I really wish our HC was a f*cking closer like Kiffin or Mario... but alas... I never wanted Manny to begin with.

Thanks, and I understand that history. And thanks.

How about now? Going to cost more than $10M to buy out Mario and the staff he may want to bring with him, if he'd even leave.

Now, boosters exerting $$$ influence to get rid of James, and we're talking!

Eugene has nothing on Miami but he’d have to really really hate it up there.
His a Cuban man who was born and raised in Dade County. His wife and her family the same. Given the opportunity he would likely return, even for less money. This is coming from someone married into the Cristobal family. IMO, he only stays in Oregon if he feels after the interview with the Miami higher ups (If he ever gets one) that they are not committed to wining BIG.

Obviously they aren’t otherwise they would have hired him the first time.

Not power, but I honestly believe Blake has a way of... idk how to say it. In Germany, theres a saying that goes "jemandem Honig ums Maul schmieren", which freely translated means being an asskisser.

Blake kissed a lot of trustees asses very well. Oh, wasnt that hard.
