Practise Tuesday 8/18

If Lashlee is who i hope he is, then he’s got more weapons than he’s ever had, so I expect tremendous results.

We may or may not have a single dominant WR, but you don’t need one dominant guy when you have a pile of excellent guys and a super dynamic dual threat QB.
I will say this - those 3* receivers at SMU caught contested balls. Roberson was a beast at that TCU game, and Patterson's DBs are well coached and play tight coverage. That is something I want to see from our guys. It's great seeing Wiggins running free and catching a pass, but I want to see our guys win those contests when there is tight coverage.

I think it's because it's guys like Payton, and the freshman that haven't done it live yet. I hope you're right.
Payton appears to be a big talent but coaches and players continue talking about consistency issues. Who knows exactly what they're referring to but we've heard similar things with Pope.

Hopefully the new scheme and QB are the tonic for them but when you have kids like Restrepo and Worsham doing everything right from day one, it really puts a lot of pressure on the incumbents which is sorely needed.

Same at RB with Harris fending off the newbs.

Even at TE it's great to have Mallory there pushing Jordan.

OL seems like one big open competition with a few guys penciled in, but it's good to have kids like Rivers as a threat to play at guard or tackle.

I know this post will be negged because you're not allowed to say anything on this site other than Miami has 85 kids who will all split the Heisman, but this is not a Miami caliber group of WRs right now.

Hopefully the freshmen can change that. I think Payton will show he is in that class. But overall, it's not a great group.
85? Too funny.

You'll see a couple guys emerge now that we have a real offense and QB. I think we probably have at least 5 NFL WRs on our roster right now. People are really sleeping on our receivers.
Yeah JP is a dawg and will be WR1 likens thinks he’s one of the most talented he’s ever coached

I think they are mediocre at best.. Hopefully #6, #8 , and #4 make me eat my words, but I'm looking for more playmakers

Watching SMU cuts and some things Roman has put up there are is a huge emphasis on winning 1 on 1 matchup for WRs. We have a lot of smaller speed guys, so they will need to use that speed and route running to win. There were a lot of plays where SMU guy made a play or beat someone in a contested-catch situation. Do we have guys that can do that consistently?

I saw the same thing when I watched SMU. The TD throw and catch at the end of the scrimmage video, and the throw to Mallory is essentially the concept. Fast, wide open, match up play-calling, good route running, and beat your guy.

We have the players. We’re in the ACC. The only team with better talent is Clemson.

Our QBs abilities will open up a lot as well.

Even the worst receiver on our team will benefit from Likens' tutilage. Everybody mentions Lashlee's scheme, but these guys are getting their technique corrected and developing with a decent WR coach now also. I expect them all to look better.

I think the #1 WR thing is overblown. You can have several really good WRs who put up huge numbers and not have one completely dominant guy.

I think we have enough weapons where we don't need to lean on one WR as the go to guy. Two great pass catching TEs, a slew of RBs who can catch the ball, what I estimate to be at least 5 future NFL WRs. That's a LOT of weapons even if our fans are a little shell shocked.
Would rather have 3 or 4 really good WR (plus the TEs and RBs) who King can spread the ball around to than have 1 main target all the time.

To me that produces better results, makes it harder on the opp D, and is more fun to watch.

I don't want a go to guy. I want King to be able to choose. Seems extremely obvious now that I typed it out.

Yep. Teams who rely too heavily on 1 WR are fcked if that guy gets hurt. Also makes it easier to game plan against a team that relies too much on 1 WR.

That was us when Richards went down.

We were all wetting our pants over Pope and Payton signing with us, and because they didn't perform in Penos' offense, they're suddenly dogmeat. I refuse to believe it until I see this season. I think both are going to have breakout years.

Wiggins isn't far behind them in terms of sheer raw talent. Meanwhile, King himself said he's developing a rapport with Harley. And we all know we got some great ones in Redding, Restrepo and crew as true freshman. Freshmen wide receivers can do some serious damage.

... add to that two rock star TEs and a few guys at RB who can house a catch ... and a mobile QB! As long as King can navigate around a semi-porous line, which I think he can, we're going to be scoring a lot of points.
