We are missing a true #1 WR. Feel like we have a lot of complimentary guys but nobody that demands the opposing teams #1 CB.I know this post will be negged because you're not allowed to say anything on this site other than Miami has 85 kids who will all split the Heisman, but this is not a Miami caliber group of WRs right now.
Hopefully the freshmen can change that. I think Payton will show he is in that class. But overall, it's not a great group.
Agreed. I do think Payton will do well and some of these 2020 WR's will help us immediately. No doubt. I'm not saying they all suck, I'm not saying they can't make plays, I'm not saying the offense won't be good.
None of that.
It's just not a collective group that scares anyone yet. Hopefully by the end of the year we can get some combination of better coaching, overall improvement and influx of some of the younger kids. But snap 1, were it to take place today, if we were to come out in 11 would most likely be Harley, Wiggins, and Pope. When you've churned out the WRs we have here over the history of this program, that just doesn't stack up.
So when someone posts thoughts from a scrimmage and they include, "WR just okay", I believe it. It's been a concern of mine. I mean, I love KJ, but we got a kid in here from Buffalo and he was the best WR on the roster the day he walked in the door. That shouldn't happen at Miami.
You'll see a couple guys emerge now that we have a real offense and QB. I think we probably have at least 5 NFL WRs on our roster right now. People are really sleeping on our receivers. We are missing a true #1 WR. Feel like we have a lot of complimentary guys but nobody that demands the opposing teams #1 CB.
I think it's because it's guys like Payton, and the freshman that haven't done it live yet. I hope you're right. You'll see a couple guys emerge now that we have a real offense and QB. I think we probably have at least 5 NFL WRs on our roster right now. People are really sleeping on our receivers.
I respect your opinion, bro, but a few of our veterans will make a lot of plays in this offense if we play.I think it's because it's guys like Payton, and the freshman that haven't done it live yet. I hope you're right.
I hear ya, I've been on the Pope train for years, just hope he can put it all together. Who else are you thinking?I respect your opinion, bro, but a few of our veterans will make a lot of plays in this offense if we play.
Dee Wiggins is going to be lights out. I'm not a huge Harley guy, but I think even he will thrive this year. I love the freshmans.I hear ya, I've been on the Pope train for years, just hope he can put it all together. Who else are you thinking?
I admittedly forgot about Wiggins, and yes he fits the bill of a #1, just needs to be more consistent.Dee Wiggins is going to be lights out. I'm not a huge Harley guy, but I think even he will thrive this year. I love the freshmans.

I think the #1 WR thing is overblown. You can have several really good WRs who put up huge numbers and not have one completely dominant guy.****. I would LOVE if you're right on that, obviously. I just don't see Pope, Wiggins, or Harley as WR1's and high end NFL picks. Payton and the freshmen, the jury is obviously out. But I'd be thrilled to have one or more of those 3 make me eat those words and blow the **** up this year.
Playing with a real QB in a real scheme will certainly help. I just don't see any of those kids with the measurables the league is looking for in Day 1 or 2 picks. We shall see.
Thanks for the input. Kinda would like to here more positive things about wr considering how much this board hypes up Harley and pope. What IV heard
1. Offense moving at warp speed
2. Deriq is a special player
3. Rooster making a big push for RB1
4. WR just okay
5. DT nicked up causing some gash plays up the middle.
I have now watched almost every SMU game from last year. Proche and Roberson clearly were the dominant receivers from SMU last year - but it does seem like each game it was either one or the other that dominated. I'm not sure if Proche had to be doubled up on, so it freed up Roberson, or when the doubled up on Roberson, Proche was wide open. But that is how it worked out. SMU didn't have a dominant slot guy last year, so I assume this will open up a whole new nightmare for defenses. And I can't even imagine what he will do with UM's TE and RBs.I think the #1 WR thing is overblown. I think we have enough weapons where we don't need to lean on one WR as the go to guy. Two great pass catching TEs, a slew of RBs who can catch the ball, what I estimate to be at least 5 future NFL WRs. That's a LOT of weapons even if our fans are a little shell shocked.
I think Mallory had a rough start but look at when Brevin went down. He picked up the slack and was impressive at times. We heard pretty much the same last year. Mallory is a scrimmage titan. Hopefully this season Lashlee can finally exploit the talent everyone knows Mallory has.
I noticed that too^ . Their QB would throw the ball trusting that his WRs would catch the ball in one-on-one coverage and make plays. Sometimes even underthrowing knowing the players would just come back to the ball looking over their back-shoulder.Watching SMU cuts and some things Roman has put up there are is a huge emphasis on winning 1 on 1 matchup for WRs. We have a lot of smaller speed guys, so they will need to use that speed and route running to win. There were a lot of plays where SMU guy made a play or beat someone in a contested-catch situation. Do we have guys that can do that consistently?
If Lashlee is who i hope he is, then he’s got more weapons than he’s ever had, so I expect tremendous results.I have now watched almost every SMU game from last year.
