I think the have the edge in coaching for sure but I also think we added some nice pieces in the coaching department as well. I genuinely think it's gonna be alot closer game then people think. Thats not even the Miami fan in me saying it. I just know if we play our best (alla notre dame 2016) we can play with anyone on any given night.
Normally I would say yes but given Manny's defensive philosophy it makes it easy for QB's he give up the easy and and it's get the opposing QB comfortable unless the drone is causing absolute havoc which isn't happening against Bama I'm sorry. It's going to be up to the offense to make a difference which is going to be tough because this Bama D is going to be humming this year. Gotta be ready in all phases though Saban usually wins these closer games with some crazy special teams wrinkle. I can see the reason to be optimistic but its Bama just going to come down to making Young earn it all but not sure Manny will abandon his philosophy of aggressive bend don't break

Ok but where is blades?!
He was out all spring and then got hurt in the summer. I thought I read before the first practice he was coming back from a stress fracture and they were easing him back in. He's been in the individual DB drills, you can see him in all the videos. I imagine being out for spring and then getting hurt over the summer has him playing catch up in conditioning and such.

The interior of their OL got pushed around last year. I don’t have the numbers handy, but they were bad with line yards and stuff rate.

Predictable offenses don’t stand a chance against Bama… Lashlee’s auburn style offense with olineman that can’t block is a recipe for a long night, hope I’m wrong. :chugger:
Predictable at times yeah, but what about his offense looks like Auburn?

We just run inside zone

You think Bama is scared to play us? Lol

We have some dudes but Bama is a whole roster full of dudes.

We’re 17 point underdogs for a reason. I think we can stay toe to toe with them but them scheduling us isn’t stupid. We’ve won 10 games once in 15 years

I don't think we'll stand toe to toe with them.

Their OL is better than our DL. Our front seven was getting bullied last year at times, running ourselves out of the play up field, and we lost how much? These dudes don't hold it down, it's gonna be ugly.

Our OL has a lot of starts, but they've never been anything to brag about. They're talking about that Bama defense as possibly the best ever under Saban, but no question it'll be a good one.

The game is won in the trenches. They should be favored as the match up isn't close on either side unless something amazing happens for us.

Anyhow, it would be nice to not only beat Bama, but also to hand Saban his first season opening loss there.

They certainly aren't scared to play us. There's years there that their second team would be a top 10 team in the country. ****, it was nice when we were like that.

What happened to Al blades Jr?
@conebone69 see @dreadloxdp post above. was hoping he would be 100% for bama.

If our offense plays lights out then maybe but bama is just going to exploit our will and Mike and control time of possession by running inside and throwing short passes in the middle cause Flagg/Jennings are not quick enough for coverage. Maybe Flagg will be great this season but I’m still salty that Diaz couldn’t take one transfer lb. we need someone fast at Mike cause our dl goes up field 9 times out of 10 leaving our lbs which is our weakest link to take on runs with little help from our dl. One of the reasons I think Miller should start vs bama me have him never go up field and just plug the A gaps to help make bama run outside

Posts like this are appreciated because it's the truth. Any defensive line with a pulse decimated us last season to the point King was scrambling for his life, and our D line was far too volatile in terms of tackles for losses, followed up by chunk gains.

Our linebackers? Lmfao they're maybe at best middle of the pack ACC-caliber, which to Bama means they're childs play. Will we be better on both ends up front this season? Absolutely, and I expect that to come to fruition about 1/3 of the way through the season. Linebackers? I guess, can't be much worse than the product we saw in 2020.

But 1st game against the most talented team in the country? Idk man, we'll see. Hope I'm wrong, but keeping expectations for 9/4 to a minimum means there's nowhere to go but up.

lol talking about the truth. our ol will be better but we don’t know how our de’s are going to be yet

well, people thought we had the talent to line up and beat LSU in dallas three years ago, and it was pretty clear after that game that we were way behind the top of the SEC. i doubt our team was intimidated going into that game ranked in the top 10 vs a team barely in the top 25. turned out that we had some NFL guys on that team, but LSU had burrow, edwards-helaire, justin jefferson, jamarr chase etc... and none of them even needed to do much for them to kick our ***. our coaching in that game was poor as was our QB play, getting better in those two departments can take you a long way. can we hold up in the trenches? i have my doubts. we'll see.
2018 was 2018. We were optimistic because Richt was finally pulling us out of our Sun Belt conference tenure. But we were so not ready for that game. Talent wise, depth and coaching.

Won’t even mention specifics of who our starting QB was, our OL, our O coordinator. We’ve got a much better team now and much better staff.

But again and to be clear, Bama should and most likely will win that game. No one is delusional. I think they will wear us down in the second half. I’m just hopeful we will give them a competitive game. If our OL comes to play, we can hang for awhile.

I can already see in my nightmares McCloud dropping into coverage and getting toasted in the flat or whatnot. He's absolutely one of those guys that I have to see it on the field to believe the progression; he's been straight buns for 4 years now. Johnson has all the athletic ability, and yes he was out of position at Tennessee, but he didn't exactly drop eye-popping numbers there. Excited about him though for sure.

I expect there might be a lot of rotation at the ends, especially early on. See who takes the bull by the horns and solidifies themselves as the alpha.

There is a huge disparity between beating Bama and winning the Coastal. I hope you all keep that in mind throughout the season.
That's the ultimate goal and always has been - get a shot to beat Clemson and potentially make the CFP out of it. Bama to me is more of a test to how we prepare when we have ample time (Manny's record with bye weeks is atrocious, and while this isn't the same, the way we come out will speak volumes), and of course which guys have improved and have the ability to makes plays against some of the best athletes in college football.

If it's the same **** - O line is getting abused every other play, D line keeps running upfield while they allow the o line to get to the second level and take out the linebackers, corners not turning their heads on balls, WR drops, etc - then it's not panic time, but it's definitely a cause for concern. IF that keeps happening, say week 3-4...then we'll have learned nothing, and it'll be the same story as every other year - Greentree All American tales that get the sunshine pumpers horny.

What I definitely want to see early on in the season, and preferably against Bama so that they can take their lumps, is I want the best players on the field. Forget experience, forget conditioning warrior bs - I want dudes who are going to go all out every play and abuse their opponent. And this is my biggest gripe with Manny - ***** seniority, play the guys that give us the best chance to win.

Jordan miller’s transformation is one of the craziest things I’ve seen. Hopefully he puts it all together this year.

On another note. I feel like when I watch the DB drills I can’t help but notice Keyshawn Washington. That guy is huge. And looks like he moves ok also. What do you guys think
Washington surprised me in the spring game... Dude was out there trying to kill something! Lol I like the attitude and aggressiveness. This might sound very silly to some but for the time being, I would use him how I prayed Carter was going to be used last yr. Simply use him as a hitman. Dude is gonna make some killshots and get ejected for it so why not....... nevermind. I forgot our fanbase too soft for this type of thinking lol

was hoping he would be 100% for bama.
He appears to be doing all the drills, so I assume he’s healed and healthy. He’s got 3.5 weeks to get in game shape, so no reason to think he won’t be a big part of the rotation. 🤞🏽
