PractiSe notes 9/1

John Metchie is a good player. At this point he isn't Jeudy, Ruggs, Smith, or Waddle. He would be last in that group.

I think he is more 2nd-3rd round type guy. Doesn't mean we won't have problems with him.
Just my opinion but that’s all gonna change this year.

for good reason everyone has been talking about the front 7s but for me I’m perhaps most interested in this area

Bama will have talent out there but what kind of inprovements do we see with Trob? Is the Ivey hype legit? Is Couch ready for the next step? Can Gurvan Hall be like JJ here? People forget JJ was widely criticized on this board until he flipped a switch midway through his junior season

Bolden is our guy but is he ready to join the elite safeties of the past? The leadership?

our secondary has a chance to be really good under this coaching staff

This. Tired of hearing how Bama DL has 5 NFL draft picks and how we should just prepare to get man handled. Donaldson at one point was a sure fire NFL pick in his own right. He shouldnt be running scared from this challenge. When NFL scouts evaluate his tape, this is the tape they are going to be looking at the most. How did he hold up against Bama? He needs to answer the bell!

I am truly hoping that Donaldson has found his form and bring much needed improvement to the OL...but lets not gaslight how he was playing since his true freshman season. He had some real struggles. Hopefully those were due to weight and health and he puts it all together.

Metchie is a ******* problem.. of course you get overshadowed when you play with 2 heisman quality wr but he made impact plays in dam near all the big games last year.. he went deep on everybody.. dude is gonna get highlighted this year but he made a name fro himself. dude quietly almost had a 1k season, lol..
Worried about Slade Bolden. He seems like the type that just drives you crazy finding open holes to extend drives on 3rd down.

The stats dont really bear that out and watching most of their big games, I would worry about the guy who was supposed to be third fiddle who ended up with 900 plus yards and 6 tds than the guy who had 250 yards and 1 td if we are ranking for priority. In passing game Metchie and Billingsly (who is in dog house I guess) would be guys at top of scouting report based on film and production.

Slade I am sure will have increased role this season tho maybe he goes off but as DC you got to prioritize

Big Vaughn looked pretty good when he played last year. He was certainly moving guys at the point of attack and no one was getting around him. Of course going around him pretty much takes a defender out of a play considering how wide Vaughn is.
If he can move Bama tackles he is a legit NFL caliber lineman.

To @JHallCanes - 100% agree. And I don’t think there is a big drop off with Metchie which is what concerns me a bit. He is not Jeudy or Smith with hands or routes - but closer to waddle with speed which could be more dangerous. TRob has to have the Secondary ready and I am more confident but I also sense a lot of running for Alabama with a new QB and Neal.

To @Cribby - I’m one of the weirdos that still prefers Blades over Ivey - especially in run situations - he’s just more aggressive and has game instincts - but maybe not as physically gifted with long arms etc.

If we could somehow force them to pass….

True. I still remember McKinnie shutting down Dwight Freeney and cementing himself as a 1st round pick.
"Heres Freeney trying the bullrush vs Bryant McKinnie... yep that aint gonna work"
