Practice #7

Why does it have to be one or the other. Why can’t it be the coaches like what they see so far and want to see how he fares playing the spot. He HAS to be throughly impressing, Diaz not just going to put anybody out there just to do it. Kennedy is a redshirt senior and he’s not even giving him reps with the ones which says to me Zion is doing well so far

I will concede that it is possible, albeit unlikely, that the Oline is performing at a high level AND Nelson is worthy of 1st team status. I find it unlikely however if for no other reason than the 2nd hand reports we have been getting detail the recurring theme of the D-line dominating the LOS. Is it possible that our Dline is simply a reincarnation of the 85 Bears? Sure. I have no doubt that the young man is "doing well" and that the coaches are looking for best fit, lineup might be different tomorrow. "Doing well" doesn't equal being a starter when you have a quality unit. I contend that we don't at this point and time. Oline is the biggest question mark on the team (well, that and our WRs apparent inability to catch), this does nothing to relieve my concern.

Is it me or is Jarren kinda slow? He looks so heavy footed and his arm movement is sluggish.
I wouldn’t look so much into it being slow, probably something he’s working on and wants to do it slower to get it right and as he gets more comfortable he will speed it up. That’s just me tho

We have completely shifted the bed when it comes to recruiting the Tackle positions. In the past we have recruited slow footed guards and try to turn them into tackles, **** does not work like that, now we have a competent coach who knows that you need to recruit athletic, quick feet lineman who you can develope and turn them into good tackles.

Obviously Nelson at starting LT is the biggest thing I took from this.... is the rest of the o-line/backups really just that awful? Is Nelson a true diamond in the rough? Or perhaps just doing everything right and giving him a shot against our dline and seeing how he does.

Also, unless it was 1-on-1, why is Frieson covering thomas??? If our striker is potentially lining up on the opposing teams number 1/fastest WR I dont see that making much sense....
Thomas is playing slot and the striker will have to cover the slot.

I haven't really heard anything from the DB, besides the safeties getting hurt, does anybody know how the secondary is looking?

''Mike Harley just dropped a pass from N’Kosi Perry and N’Kosi gave him some words: “C’mon Mike! Catch the ball!”

Now I'm starting to pull for the kid, seems like he's taking the job seriously now. He has the talent if he works hard enough with good coaching. Certainly has the arm.. Things seem to be looking up with our QB's.

Thank God for KJ. What a get by the staff. We needed his consistency and work ethic in that receiver room.
KJ is also known by Buffalo fans to drop passes in big games... regardless, I hopoe he's clutch at Miami.... Harley seems to lose focus like he's trying to run before catching it....needs to concentrate on possessing it first....I hope Thomas isn't still getting fatigued....we need him to be stronger late in games...if Jeff works harder on his body... he could easily become an AA caliber player....I expect speedsters like Mike and Jeff to improve yards after the catch.....

Don't really know why people immediately wrote Zion off. From his tape he had good technique, good feet, athleticism, and showed good strength for someone who was 245lb. He is an EE and has gained about 20lbs of good weight while keeping his mobility. I'm not saying he will be starting this year, but he can definitely be a key player his sophmore year
but he was a 2 star.....

I doubt Nelson makes an impact this year but seems to be ahead of schedule with his weight gain and the extra reps cause our OL depth is ****.

2020 is the year OL becomes a strength.

I'd honestly rather have an athletic kid that can move at tackle and might be a little light than a big kid who can't move. Burns for FSU was what, 250 dripping wet with a few cinder blocks tied to the scale. Just ran around our tackles all day.

“…a man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still”

From time to time I agree with posters … and I show some love.
From time to time I disagree with posters … and I don’t show love.
Sometimes a post has conflicting information which means I may agree/disagree with part of the post, but not another part.
I’m a Miami fan. And I hope Miami has a future Pro-bowler in Zion.
I’m not a fan of posters ****ting on Miami players. Ever.
Players are off limits. Brown is a Miami player.
You seem to be making it your thing to **** on Miami players.
(Btw, I would pay money for you to put your hands around Tito Odenigbo’s throat in a hostile way without his consent, preferably with no backup within 100m.)

I’m not questioning your Cane-Card, etc … I believe you’re as much of a fan as anyone else. But, I will downvote anyone who ***** on Miami players (yes, even if the player doesn’t even play).
You are entitled to your own opinion as is everyone else and I don’t have an issue with that.
I will **** on players who act like idiots on the field and off the field. Tito’s personal foul, Harley and Perry acting like fools on social media and both being brutal on the field just to mention a couple. George Brown was expected to come in and start or be in the rotation. I know injuries happen but he’s struggled ever since he got here. Idk if he’s lazy and unwilling to work but he had expectations that haven’t been close to being met.

When they moved Nelson to 1st team LT didn't they move Scaife over to the right side? If they were just giving the kid some reps I don't think they do that. It makes me believe they are at least open to see if that is what the best combo is.

Agree but also I don't see the alternative as I do not think you drop Scaife to second team LT, he is still one of the best 5 lineman easily so he has to stay in the starting lineup.

I look at it as its spring, coaches have said the depth chart was initially based on offseason workouts, Nelson is doing everything the coaches are asking of him so they gave him a shot to see how he does. Will he stay there? I think unlikely but they are at least giving him a shot to see what they have and like you said find the best combo.
