Potential Saban successor

Dabo should focus on this year and not his future. If Clemson doesn’t make it to Charlotte this year, they’ll be calling for his job.

So no need to worry Bama fans. All of the elite recruits your losing to Mario over the next 3 years are all really going to Bama once transfer there after Mario succeeds Sabag. 🙄
PS we’ve been that before and will be again. If players can win National Championships while being developed into first rounders at Miami very few will want to go to Bama especially if there’s no bag factor advantage. I know some people on here find that hard to believe but it’s facts. Mario knows this and is not planning on going anywhere.

I've wondered a little about Dabo's appeal of late. He obviously built a fantastic program, but I'd be a little skeptical if I was a Clemson fan about the oc and dc hires. What if Clemson struggles a bit again? Perception is so often built on what-have-you-done-lately that I wonder what his appeal will be in the next couple years if Clemson doesn't get back to its Lawrence/Watson years. I can envision folks crediting his success to Venables and the two coordinators both of whom went on to HC gigs.
Well so far they've gone 0-1 because Jeff Scott has SUCKED since leaving Clemson.

I do think Venables will be decent but he won't replicate Riley's success. His OC hire was big time. I know Lane is an offensive genius but Jeff Lebby is no slouch himself - Ole Miss will feel that loss and OU will be pretty good due to the OFF for now.

Tony Elliott is at UVA so.....I'll just say that imo Bronco showed us all UVA's ceiling. 6-8 wins and a annually beating VT is all that's required for being off the hotseat at UVA.

All of which means that Dabo us DEFINITELY taking the Bama job when Saban retires. It'll be a ready made machine, and he'll likely win 2 just from Saban's kids

Didn't Mario mention that Butch saying leaving Miami was his greatest regret is something that affected him?
I stated in another post and others that Howard, Jimmy, and Butch would have done what Alabama has done over the past decade plus minus the cheating and the NCAA playing dumb. It's possible Mario is aware of this and has a chance not only to duplicate what his predecessors did but exceed it..........by a lot.

I think this speculation of Mario to Bama is ridiculous. If Mario is in the conversation as the Bama coach in the next few years when Saban seemingly leaves, it means Mario is a contender for a title down here. Why would he even think about leaving his alma mater for Bama when he has already put the rebuild behind him? Bama was also pretty bad for a 10-15 year period in the mid 90’s and 2000’s till saban got there, with some pretty decent coaches.

Mario ain’t leaving here… not even for the nfl.

He’s home and as long as he wins hes going to be a lifer

Mario hasn't coached one down yet, and now some are already projecting him to leave and go to Bama.
SMH.

People have been saying this since he was at Oregon... Don't try and make this into some crazy thing that Miami fans have started.

This is a very good point. In terms of his coordinators turned HCs we will see how they do. I think Venables can do well at OU but he is a complete unknown as an HC. With Elliott , UVA is not an easy place to win at and I don't understand why he took that job in the first place.
Getting back to Dabo, I think he is the No.1 guy on the list to replace Saban. He's an alum and I don't see Saban hanging around for too much longer. Dabo just needs to stay the course and ride that defense to a 10+ win season and his appeal will be intact.

Mario to Alabama is a 0% chance. There are two possibilities.

1. Mario succeeds at Miami and restores the sleeping giant. He would have no reason to leave. I know it’s hard to believe now, but Bama would be a downgrade.
2. Mario is either moderately successful or fails. Bama won’t hire him. Mario would be the downgrade compared to other candidates.

Its a catch 22 that works in our favor.

It will be neither. Dabo wants it and would’ve gotten it a few years ago but Saban probably coaches 3 or more years I bet and by then dabo shine will have worn off and Miami will be rolling so reason for Mario to leave
That would probably be about the right timeline. Clemson has a talent advantage over us (and the rest of the conference) that will not be fixed for a few more recruiting cycles assuming we are comfortably inside the top ten. we won't actually be the favorites until it we have beaten them, or we finally out talent them.
