I actually watched it again last night.
The first play after TVD comes in, he has Restrepo WIDE OPEN in the middle of the field on a slant from the slot, and Greedy Vance is in the area but it's one missed tackle from probably a 30 yard gain. And TVD fires a missile, way too hard, and low. The whole game was like that. Restrepo was open a bunch, we could never get him the ball in the right spot. But TVD eventually makes 2 very good throws and Colbie makes one good catch, one great catch, and we're cooking at the 50 with well over a minute left and a timeout.
But 4 straight nothings, and we go home.
I was focused on Dawson, though. I like him, but even McDonough on the call was like, Yo...yall gonna hurry the **** up, or what? Just zero urgency. There is definitely a fine line between getting your right call and going full speed, so at the end of the day it was execution and not time that killed us, but at the end of games all year we just didn't look like we had an optimal plan. We have to be better there this year, because as good as we might be, there are going to be games that will be close in the 4th quarter. Even the 2001 team had some. Execution and planning needs to be a lot better.
