It's important to remember most of these comments you read are based on media getting 20 minutes of access prior to us really getting to work. Past that it's second hand info more often than not. Like vermin for instance. Every single time throughout the years I've seen him at practice it's the beginning of practice and they've got him tucked away in a corner **** near by himself next to the indoor. Meanwhile we're outside getting in some work on the far side field outside... The access some people pretend they have for their own purpose is tremendously exaggerated. Poff hasn't been struggling. Honestly none of the QB room has from what I've seen or heard. But in camp they really shouldn't anyhow.

Last thing I'll say is I think you're mistook about us focusing on the portal for QBs. Mario simply is realistic with himself when it relates to our needs. He listens to staff about where we're at and how do we make progress. For the time being & where the rest of the team was at it makes sense for us to turn around and bring in a high level proven QB who can help us now... But don't think for a second if we have the choice between a highs school QB who we think is gonna play at a high level & a short term portal fix that we would take the portal QB.

Dee, I hope Mario knows he needs to run up the score not only for recruiting optics, but also to get Poff and Emory game experience. We really can't play clock management if we're up by 2-3 TDs, we need to rotate in the backup QBs to get them legit reps.

When it comes to the portal, I hate the term “fluid” but it really is

Portal and transfers and NIL is a **** show right now and I think teams are going the best they can in the present moments while also planning a long term strategy. It’s been a scramble for every program in the country to do what’s best for right now but also build something sustainable long term. Not sure how it plays out but I like what we are doing.

Way back in Emorys commitment thread I was like I’m no QB guru but his highlights look good. I said the same about Nickel and at first people were crapping on him as well but quickly came around

As long as the offense delivers I think it all plays out well for us

LOL at Vermin in the corner.

If Mario was a smart coach ( which is NOT) he would try to anniliate FL because of recruiting, optics, and giving a chance for the second and third string QB's to shine and get experience. Just think where we will be if Cam Ward gets hurt. That is a avery scary thought. If we're winning big take him out. I don't think that is in Mario's DNA AT ALL!

More amusing part to that is most don't understand what they're really seeing. So the reason they crapped on both is they assume based on rankings that they were both reaches...

There are plenty of people that don’t think Emory has the tools to be a starting caliber qb for a championship hopeful team that never said the same about Nickel. No idea what Nickel has to do with this argument.

You think we're giving 3rd string QB reps AT The Swamp first game of the year?? Sure thing bud.

I get what you're saying, we don't want to have our backup throw a pick 6 and get the Gators back into the game. At the same time, we have to get these guys reps. If we're up by 3 TDs in the second half, they need to be out there both because we can't have Cam injured in garbage time and for their development. It's not like Williams hasn't played in tough games before. JMHO.

I respect your opinion. But I think maybe you gotta see bigger picture. Look at most championship teams and you'll see the focal point is consistentcy and limiting negative plays aka turnovers out of the QB. Just look at the sec **** near as a whole & you'd see the blueprint. Bama, uga etc. All those championships and which one of them relied on their QBs as game changers? I'll save you the time and simply say none. You guys form your own conclusions from there.

As a general rule I agree. There are a couple of one offs like Cam with Auburn and Burrow with LSU (Although Burrow was absolutely loaded with NFL talent) where they put up video game numbers.

Tough game to open. I see it being similar to Utah last year. A grind where we take control late. Completely agree on protecting Cam at all cost. (see: Jordan Travis)

I think one issue I’ve always had with recruiting rankings and whatnot (besides being horrible biased) is often it’s based on NFL potential

I get it. Not saying that shouldn’t matter, but if I paraphrase Coach Dorito “I want guys that can dominate in college”

We’ve missed a lot of great prospects over the years pigeon holing measurables and not just taking kids that can flat out ball

I think people miss the forest for the trees regarding what happened last year with Emory. God bless the guy but none of that was about him.

The narrative is our coaches suck and that's what's holding us back. I think Clemson and FSU was all Mario, Dawson, and Guidry. They don't get NEARLY enough credit (locally but also nationally) for what they were able to do during that stretch.

-The 335 yards we put up on FSU was the most yards they had given up in their last 9 regular season games
-The 322 yards they put up was the 2nd least of the Travis era, only beaten by the 311 yards Clemson held them to
-The 362 yards we put up on Clemson was the 3rd most yards they gave up all season
-The 345 yards they put up was the 4th least

Say what you want about this coaching staff, those results are f***ing coaching dude. Emory was just a pawn in that game plan. This coaching staff almost took down both of the top 2 teams in the ACC with Emory, the true freshman, as the QB.

In the 5 games we lost TVD threw 9 INTs. And all those games were 1 score in the 4th. I think the staff had this team in position to be a 10 win team but you cannot overcome what happened to TVD.
Miami hasn't had a consistent QB since Mario was hired. As bad as TVD played last year, just subbing in Ward for him, and I think they win 10 games.

It’s all good Bunker, nothing personal. A lot of these guys would take JB back over Emory in a heartbeat. Just parts of the anyone but the guy who went clutch against Clemson and almost led you to victory over a top 5 team in the road against your rival. All while being ****ed around with the following couple weeks and getting no PT in favor of an uncommitted slug.

Don’t try to make sense of it.
When they let Emory throw, to me, he didn't look that bad. They protected him with the play calling, but when they took the hand cuffs off, he looked like he could be decent with some experience.

Burrow I'll agree. However cam & hurts that was mentioned previously & even deshawn they were game managers all day. The majority of the way they impact the game is with their feet. That's limiting the risk. That's not saying they won't throw once they scramble. Just that they move the pocket and extend the play with their feet until a route become a clear option or they take off

Yes and no. More so id say we lost having a staff in place capable of identifying talent and executing on snatching them up.

I mentioned in a different post (about OJ I think) how we saw some offers go out to lower ranked kids but they were ones we had seen in person many times. The resources are pretty clear which is nice.

The Ga Tech debacle has clouded everyone's judgment.

It's both completely deserved and nowhere near an explanation as to why the team won 7 games.

It was a 10 win team with a -3 win QB

People look at Emory’s stats versus Clemson and FSU but don’t remember him late in both games. He made multiple big throws late against Clemson and had us driving against FSU when he broke his arm. I really wish he could’ve finished that game , the guys rallied behind him and believed. That alone is impressive for a true Fr playing his first football. Guys played for him. He also has intangibles very few qb’s have. Another area regular fans can’t see. Once again Emory’s first couple starts were against a great Clemson D and and a great FSU D at Doak. Negatively judging a 17-18 year old’s future off that is absolutely ridiculous. But not surprising.
