Post Scrimmage details

At the time Poff signed, Cam was more likely to be in the draft than a Miami Hurricane. Poff was very successful at his last school and Emory is by no means plug and play. At the very least he was needed to push Emory. At most beats Emory out and is the most capable backup. He was definitely worth the Scholarship when he signed and still worth one today.

That is why.
**** thats why….oh ok lol

We are getting a top portal QB again IMO next year. Especially if Cam gets to be a top 100 pick

I heard the only injury we came out with was to:

I don't like to be negative and put down fellow Canes fans but your sarcastic lol is on the level of "I know you are but what am I". I'm wondering if you just started paying attention to Miami football this month being that just this past bowl game we were facing a situation of a walk on starting at QB before we were able to incentivize Jacurri to play the game. This is not EA Sports, QB's get hurt and quit.

Please, if I am missing something, educate me on the benefits of kicking him to the curb and using a scholarship elsewhere.

I agree with you. If we can show success and turn around consistently great OL and skill guys, Miami is THE destination. I just don't want to HAVE to rely on the portal because although it is likely, nothing is a sure thing.

DTP, you give our fans zero credit. I don't know what you are talking about but I think EVERY FAN realizes the talent of Cam Ward!
I never said people don’t realize his talent. I said that fans assume we can pull that kind of talent from the portal every year and that’s not realistic.

typical cane fan…let’s be real here,we all knew we needed depth at that position…dude said puff wasn’t a P4 QB starter or backup..he knows that for sure..so I asked why is he still here…you decided to answer for him….simple as that…

Way too many Miami fans think we’re just going to pull a starting quarterback from the portal every year. Look at the other portal QBs who were available besides Cam Ward. Dillon Gabriel was the only other sure thing starter. The rest of the portal was littered with three types: guys who had previous success but for whatever reason, moved on like DJ Ukelele, Will Rogers and Tyler Van Dyke (two of them are in a battle for the starting job at their new school). Former high level recruits that didn’t make the cut at their original school. I don’t mind taking a flyer on a former 5 star but I’m not just assuming he’s going to come in and be a day one starter. Or small school guys who are trying to make the jump like Poffenbarger.

I don’t think people realize how lucky we were to get Ward. There was literally two starting caliber quarterbacks in the portal and we got one of them. I don’t want to have to do this every year.
Wait, what? I’m not a massive fan of some of them by any means but to act like the list of sure starters was just Ward and Gabriel just wrong lol. I would 100% say guys in the tiers below would be the starter here this year.

Ward
Gabriel
DJU
Rodgers
Howard
Leonard
McCord
McCall

And that’s ignoring younger upside guys like Moore, Chiles, Johnson, etc. or guys like McCloud that some people liked. I don’t think we should make relying on the portal the long term plan, too unpredictable, but I do think the talent is only going to keep increasing until something eventually changes with the rules.

I just couldnt bring myself to typing it up like you did being an offensive tackle but ......THIS.

I mean i would block dude for 4-5 seconds and dude would still be in pursuit angle chasing sh*t down twenty yards down the field.

The big 6'5 260 des i had no issues.

My mf dawg rip Julius was 6'2 215 tops in college and gave me **** in practice.

I look for motor off rip with dl
Interesting take that I did not consider previously but it makes perfect sense!

I would think that with the depth we now have along the DL we can rotate enough that we are going at the OL 100% on every play which should cause some havoc.

You can like guys like Poff and Emory (I do) and still be like “we need to do better if we want to get back to the top”

Not saying you, but not sure why people suddenly devolve into such bull**** when it’s a position we clearly need to upgrade
The fact is that a lot of schools now look to the portal to find a starting QB because a lot of HS guys just never really pan out. I hope Poff or Emory are the answer at the most important position on the field, but every college coach is always looking to get better players at every position. If they aren't looking for better players, they will probably be looking for a job soon enough.

Yeah I’ve said many times I like the approach I hear we are taking

If I’m investing my money, I want someone proven over what it’s taking to get these elite high school QBs to sign, who then seem to jump ship immediately

I wouldn’t even play that game. I like the direction we are going with the position but also realize it’s a tough ask to get a Cam Ward type year after year unless we are winning games and scoring a lot of points. We aren’t the only program that feels this way

It is a lot easier and more accurate evaluating a college transfer player than a high school prospect. There is no way around that. Obviously, you have to recruit HS prospects and hope they pan out, but portal guys are a much safer bet. And every coach not named Dabo agrees.
