We haven't had a single mention of Jacolby George all of fall camp. IF JG is our 4th best WR after X, Sam Brown and Horton we may be cooking with gas.

Also some questions that are important but people who attended are probably forbidden to speak on:

Who (if anyone) got injured?
Who started at OL?
It's been said that he continues to make plays and is the most talented route runner of the bunch.

Exciting to see Cole and OJ progress and prove they belong from such an early stage. OJ could be a factor this year.

In terms of Poff I agree with you but I'll also say that there is still time for him to continue to develop. That competition between Poff and Emory is great for the team as either is just one play away. Its imperative that we get both live action in blowouts or vs teams like FAMU. Neither is likely to win a starting job here next year but there's a reason backup QBs make millions at the next level. We just need to continue to raise the floor of the QB room. I'm a huge Judd Anderson fan and the addition of Nickel next year will only intensify to competition.
You can like guys like Poff and Emory (I do) and still be like “we need to do better if we want to get back to the top”

Not saying you, but not sure why people suddenly devolve into such bull**** when it’s a position we clearly need to upgrade

I was in agreement with you. I never implied that I was satisfied with Poff and Emory. Clearly I've been consistently banging the drum of elite talent acquisition for years. My post was more about how to make the best of the current situation. This QB room clearly needs an upgrade hence the comment about continuely raising the floor. We are most certainly going back to the portal for the 2025 starter.

Here's the thing. How likely is it for us to find another Cam Ward in the portal? And let's face it, Cam probably flipped a coin between going pro and playing for Miami. That was the luckiest day in Mario Cristobal's career.

While I agree with you 100% that neither Poff nor Emory will replace Ward next season, I also think the staff needs to be prepared to run with one of them in case they don't strike lightening twice. So whoever wins the backup role has to be developed. If it's Emory, redshirting him is a luxury we just don't have. you roll him out in every game possible.

There's usually top QBs every portal year. Last year(2023), I doubt we would've landed Sam Hartman, but there was Kyron Drones. The year before that, there was Caleb, Dart, Ewers, Gabriel, Ward, Daniels. And there's always crowded QB rooms elsewhere and there isn't going to be an end to coaching changes at mass.

I agree that we need to develop a QB just in case we strikeout. I hope that's the plan for Nickel. However, I think it's a good bet to bank on top portal QBs.

We might not find another Cam Ward but if Cam does great this year, it will make Miami a much more desirable destination for talented QBs looking for a new home. We offer top notch OL, RB, TE and WR talent not to mention a nasty defense. If Mario get the QB monkey off his back this season then we will be in a very good position. There's no way this staff is going to roll with Poff or Emory as QB1 next year barring injury or some kind of miraculous development from Emory.

This conversation always immediately devolves into something strange for sure

I’m with you

My concern isn’t Emory. I love the kid. Gave his arm to try and get a first down against FSU he’s good in my book.

My thing is the staff brought in Poff specifically to beat out Emory and be the starter potentially. I think the staff saw the same things like we gotta bring in more competition there

It’s still a question mark to me our QB evals and if Poff can’t beat out Emory, that’s not ideal.

But I think most people understand that

If Ward has the type of season he should, we’ll have zero issue finding a portal guy next offseason. If Emory Williams goes into a season QB1 at Miami it’s an organizational failure. Why some of you are so willing to die on the hill he should be a starter for us one day is beyond me.

Not too surprised on McConathey. I remember me & Dwins were early on that bandwagon.
What is it that you saw on film that impressed you?

For me, something I'm learning to put more value in is motor for DL. So many pressures/sacks are the result of pure, unadulterated effort. I rated McConathey about where sites had him because I didn't value his combination of first step quickness, motor, length enough.

Even though I'm typically drawn to production and motor, I feel like I let the fact that Alabama didn't chase him hard cloud my eyes I think.

The feedback I've gotten from two different places today is that he is going to play a ton and even had some looks with players who might be first on the field at the beginning of a game. Score one for the coaches above my evaluation.

Good to see guys like OJ and Cole continue to get good marks

Sometimes these young kids show up and they just don’t belong

I’d say the disheartening news from this off-season has been Poff for me. Not being able to separate himself from Emory is troubling even though our season clearly runs through Cam
Not surprising he can't separate from Emory because....

Emory DAW GAWD QB bro
