post practice 4/3/18

Richt ain’t the type of dude to keep saying Malik is the guy just to keep him around for the Fall. No way he would do that to Malik for him not to play his last year of Football. Malik is the guy right now whether y’all like it or not.

Maybe right at this moment. But there is plenty of time for the younger guys to pass him up (and I hope they do).

Brown had some good things to say about Burns. ... What a difference an off-season makes. We have Dallas at 220, Burns at 225 and Gray at 240. ****. ... Does Gray become the next Quad Hill?

Call him Q, not Quad

That’s my comparison I had For a gray a few weeks ago. Hope so

I'm really hoping for a breakout year for Cager, with his size he could be a nightmare to cover. A Kelvin Benjamin type of guy.
He was the best player we had those last couple of weeks.

I think it was all confidence with him. Coming off injuries is tough and he just wasn’t using his gifts. He was aggressive going after balls and mixing it up with DBs when we played some of our toughest opponents.

Obviously it’s a tiny sample size but he looked like he turned the corner. It was always about attitude, not talent, with him.

Malik is the guy...until someone truly takes the job away from him. And that’s fair.

If folks are thinking Richt is going to unseat Malik just because some other cat has better “potential”, they’re wrong.

He preaches the basics too much to just roll a hit or miss guy out there.

Rosier is hit or miss.

Rosier is hit or miss.

Totally agree. But he’s hit or miss from an accuracy standpoint. Didn’t Richt or someone point out that Malik usually makes the right decision?

That’s something Richt clearly places a premium on. That’s why raw playmaking ability isn’t going to win Perry or Williams the job.

One thing I picked up and can infer is Malik if he holds onto the job is on a short lease. That wasn't the case last year with Evan as the backup. He said the two kids (Perry and Weldon) are no longer redshirts and will be given the opportunity to play this year.

Not as disappointed as the people who’s jobs depend on winning,
Just a question for those who want Mark to pick someone else as quickly as he can and announce it to make them feel better. Do you think it is a bad idea to keep a senior QB around who won our "great" football program its FIRST Coastal Title since joining the "powerful" ACC, gave our "beloved" HC he best start ever, got us up the ranking to #2 for the first time in so long that 14 of my grandkids have been born in between, and one game from the playoffs?

He is probably not good enough to get us to NC game but it makes no sense to run him off. These other kids need to see real action and hopefully one will shine but right now, it is all "what's behind curtin number 2?" The smart play is Rosier starts first game no matter what. Perry and maybe Cade need to think they have shot if he craps the floor to keep both of them also. We need to keep our QBs so there is someone to go in when needed and not suck.

Every negative thing Ive heard about Perry this spring can be categorized as a nitpick.

Im not sure why hes being written off by some, and given Richts unusual bluntness in regards to player performance this spring (ex. Irvin), if Perry was practicing like **** Richt wouldnt sugarcoat it.
However, the QB position is a position where subtle nuances make all the difference. Spring is a good time for nitpicking. It let's the guys know that they're close, and that it could be just some minor little detail that is holding them back. And it gives them the information they need to get better while they still have plenty of time to do so.

Like it or not, credit Rosier or not, last year's team set the standard for the Richt Era. 10 wins and an ACCCG berth is the minimum. We proved that we are good enough to accomplish that with a 54% passer who routinely threw screen passes in the dirt. Whoever is under center when 2018 kicks off will not be given any sort of, "well he's just a Freshman/RS Freshman," type excuses. We are finally back to the point to where we expect to win every game on our schedule and compete with the elite programs in postseason play. Anything less is going to be seen as a failure and the blame will fall to Richt and this QB#1 decision.

He is right to maintain Rosier as the #1 until someone unseats him. These scrimmages are going to be crucial. Richt and Co. are going to spend the summer scouring the film for data points that will be used in the fall as teaching aids and towards naming the starter. Be patient and let it play out.

I never said I needed it to be announced right away. I like the idea of Rosier being a backup.

I gathered from that interview right now malik is the guy but he wouldn't hesitate to give him the hook if he underperforms, this job will be won in the fall so just because he is "the guy" right now doesn't mean the competition is over.
