Post-camp thoughts

The minimization of Cam Ward continues still... unabated...
Who in the world is minimizing him? What are you talking about?! You know it’s OK to point out the fact that he never took the check down and that cost us two games last year. You know it’s OK to point that out because it’s true. Smh by pointing out something that’s true, it’s not minimizing him, it’s just speaking the truth.

Agree with D on his evaluation
The one thing he didn’t mention:
Coaching
Mario will cost us 1 game because of poor clock / game management issues.Has not learned anything in that department on 3 years here

Dawson is solid OC, not sure about Hetherman

If the DC is good coach, we will win ACC
and roll into playoffs.
The team is absolutely stacked!
That’s a bunch of BS right there and you’re just feeding an agenda that isn’t correct anymore. Get real dude, Mario’s coaching improved greatly last year. So don’t give me that **** anymore about game day coaching when he has already showed improvement on it and I guarantee he’s gonna show improvement on it again. Stop living in the past, it’s posters like you that come on here and say that **** and make it like it’s still happening when it’s not.

You could change the names and copy and paste this as a template for this version of Dmoney’s post every year. I don’t see it. Only thing I’m confident in is the running game. The rest is all hypothetical. Receiver and linebacker I think we have a lot of JAGs. Feel better about CB but not Safety. D Line is the classic where we have Jags who are gonna play over blue chips who eventuallly transfer

Hate to be Debbie Downer and would love to be wrong. But this year has 8-4 written all over it and a staring contest as we look at what we will be under Mario. Better than we’ve been, and sort of within striking distance, but gonna lose two dumb games minimum every year.
If that’s your comment on our upcoming season, it shows me two things. Number one you never played this game at a high level and number two you couldn’t evaluate the difference between a piece of dog **** on your lawn versus a piece of dirt.

Do the people who say this know we were the most efficient offense by far? Like it was one of the best offenses of the last 10 years and yall keep saying it will get more “efficient” lmao

And blaming cam for Syracuse is just insane
Cam wouldn’t take the check down to save his life and that is a fact. No matter how much word salad you wanna throw out here to try to change that, it ain’t happening because it’s a fact. Also, Cam not taking the check down cost us the Georgia Tech game and the Syracuse game. Those are also two facts. That’s reality my friend not a made up world. And it’s OK to point those things out because it’s true, Cam was the best quarterback we’ve had in a long time, but he would’ve been even better if he would’ve took the check down a little more.

This. First game will reveal a lot. Regardless of how it rates statistically, Dawson needs some diversity in the run game. Teams like ND aren't going to get gashed by dives out the Pistol. They're going to mug tf out of Toney and CJ too, hopefully Jojo is on Gray as I think he's the weakest corner they have.
We had a top five run game in the country last year And our running back room is better this year than it was last year. So please explain, why is it we need to fix something that’s not broken? Smh

I would argue that we lost to GT because the defense looked so bad that Mario decided FGs couldn't win us the game. I also think that's why he kicked against Syracuse. Cause had he just taken the pts against GT we probably win that game.

We lost to Syracuse cause we couldn't stop them.

Iowa St is a throwaway but we pull away if Ward plays the second half. Defense blew it at the end but had a better second half. Would have been good enough for us to get the W cause they couldn't stop Ward.

Yes, those things are true, but we also lost because Cam wouldn’t take the check down and that’s also true. Had he taken the check down, we win both those games regardless of how bad our defense was.

Personally I’m more concerned about safety (top end talent & depth) than WR.

CJ Daniels is an ACC-starter level security-blanket/possession guy. I think we all expect Toney to be an immediate contributor in the slot. Someone needs to step up and be a vertical threat. Seems like that is JoJo’s spot and hopefully he is ready to take it. I’d like to see more speed, but there should be decent depth behind these guys. When combined with a solid ground attack and 1st round QB, I think this room is fine.

Even taking D$ at his word that the starters are SEC quality, we are 1 injury away there. Would anyone feel confident in a playoff game with Markeith Williams as a starter? I think back to those Jaquan Johnson years and remember what a game changer having an eraser at the safety position can be, and I contrast it to the GT/kneel game where they got torched in 2 throws right down the field. Giving up busts/explosives haunted this team last year. I hope this safety room can give us enough that it doesn’t happen again this year.

Changing the play style of Ward possibly eliminates other big plays that contributed to winning. Looking at a singular play in a vacuum is nice but you are talking about a philosophical change that would impact every play. Whether that's a net positive or negative is a real question

Also slightly changing the style of play eliminates the terrible interceptions he had on the same plays during the year. Both things are true. The beauty of it is this, we Won’t have to worry about that with Beck this year because he will take the check down and I believe because of that, our offense will be more efficient.

Beck was on the road at Alabama down 25 and brought them back to take the lead. Stop reading the anti miami press clippings. He is the best QB in college this season and had he not gotten hurt he woulda been the second, maybe 1st, QB off the board.
You’re right. He did do that. But he looked horrendous in the first half of that game. Both statements can be true. Do I think Beck struggles like some are predicting? No.

I think he ends up being a T10 QB this season. UGA did him little to no favors last season. But that’s my broader point. We will not play 16 clean games this season. We just won’t. How does he react when things go sideways.

If ND comes out and gets after Beck early, does he look shell shocked like he did to start the Bama? Or does he settle in and play with a different mentality knowing our run game will keep the offense afloat. I’m going to be cautiously skeptical of this team until I see it. If that’s believing “anti Miami press clippings” so be it. But this program has lost any benefit of doubt with me.

I thought Mario put some of those narratives about the poor clock/game management issues to bed last year. If you look at our two regular season loses, was it really an issue in those games?

Since we are going to be 8-4 I assume you’re all the under on the season win bet which is 9.5. You’ve got a game to play with.

Also have never understood why coaches would play jags instead of blue chippers. People write that a lot. Since coaches build resumes and salaries by winning that seems like an odd strategy.

I don’t know if he’s the best qb but you are right on the narrative. The kid is 24-3 in the sec yet the same people slurp lagway. His OL was not great and his wr’s dropped everything. Let’s not forget bobo. my concern is health. He won’t have to force the issue as much this year. Is beck a top pick, I don’t know but no one is perfect. Cam’s hero ball put us in some tough spots too.

Top 5 in what metric? We were 31st in yards and 7th in ypc. Maybe in advanced stats. Teams weren't loading the box with Cam at QB, they'll do it with Beck until he and our receivers prove they can burn a secondary. You don't want to be one-dimensional when the talent/competition levels out, or is better, in the playoffs.

Beck isn't Cam but Cam was just the #1 pick in the NFL draft. There's not many QBs out there that can say that. I will say though, Beck was once talked about as the the potential #1 pick for a reason. The hype was real and then last year happened. Was some on Beck last year? Of course but didn't UGA lead the country in drops? Wasn't their OL atrocious? Our OL is elite and if it's not, it's **** close. The receivers will still be the biggest question mark with me heading into this season. I don't think we hit the portal hard enough for higher end talent. Not high on Daniels. They'll definitely be put to the test next Sunday against that secondary. One thing I will say, Dawson is a **** good OC when he has a good QB. He can definitely get guys open. If these receivers and TEs are worth a ****, Beck is a 1st round pick. Only thing holding him back from being a top 5 pick or potential #1 pick is the age.

😂😂😂, 7th in YPC is great and we were 31st in yards bc we had the best qb in CFB and passed a lot. So yes, we had a top run offense.

It improved but it's still awful. He's fully dependent on his coordinators on gameday.
