Position Group Grades 2021

QB: B+
RB: A-
WR: C
TE: B-
OL: C+

DE: B-
DT: B
LB: D+
CB: B
S: B+

I gave WR’s a C but they could potentially play up to a B, and TE’s really just depends on the health of the group. With Keontra, the LB’s moved from D to D+.

8 wins and Manny will need to kick rocks. Them are some tough grades, and I'm usually considered a "mope" here, lol.

Every offseason is the same old bull****. Every year for as many as I can count, the dimwits on this board predict 10+ wins and the coastal.

Every year the board pumpers say the same thing, and every year we win 7-9 games and lose a mediocre bowl. It's how it goes, like clockwork.

You're not a mope, you're a quality poster. If not feeding in to people's stupid delusions makes you a mope, then be a mope.

I think the grades are fair.

WR - Pope and Wiggins were garbage, and they started. That tells me whoever is behind them is even worse. We added Rambo, which takes us from an "F" to a "D". Harley and Rambo are an OK, if undersized core. Behind that, everyone is unproven.

QB - King is an A, but he's a dual threat QB coming off a major knee surgery. So B+

TE - Mallory is overrated. Haven't seen him do **** here, really. We lose Jordan. We have some young talent but unproven. Average C grade.

OT: C - Zion is pretty good, but you need 2 or 3 "pretty good" OT's to have a good unit. Average group, C grade.

OG: D - Honestly this is generous. We have one OG with potential if he can stick to the Jenny Craig plan, the others are on roller skates or unproven freshmans. D.

C: This is generous as well. Gaynor is trash, but he's at least old, experienced trash. Average grade, C.

Corners C: When they're pumping up Ivey as an "NFL guy," you can't give this group higher than a C, although I think TS was a good addition this year.

Safeties B+: Talented group.

LBs. F: This is the most poorly recruited group at Miami in the 30+ years I've followed this team. Just straight trash from top to bottom in terms of talent and playing ability. Probably the worst group in the ACC, and one of the worst groups in major college football. F.

DE. D: We lost 3 NFL guys, 2 in the 1st round. We took a linebacker from Tennessee and are expected to believe that plugging him in will solve the dropoff issue. It won't. This group isn't nearly as talented as it was last year. We haven't recruited that well here. D.

DT. C: Average group. Not horrible, not consistently dominant. C grade.

I don't disagree with you at all, the "15-0BROS!!!!!!!!" are the worst porsters here, and this board is full of em.

Could be a result of being the only reliable option on the outside but numbers don't lie. Harley could be far more than just OK this season since by the criteria he would have been graded an A last year and Rambo was pretty impressive in 2019.

If you are going to be "objective" about the team then you gotta at least give them credit where it is due.

I think if restrepo and Keyshawn emerge like we think they can receiver can get to a B-

Safety can be an A if hall gets it together. If not it’s a B+ at best.

Keyshawn is the X factor at WR. If he is who we think/hope he can be, he gives a legit 2nd option along with Rambo who can take the top off the defense. That's exactly what Lashlee wants to open up the run game inside.

Some I agree with here.

A few disagreements, though:

OT: a little too harsh. Zion is projecting potentially to a day 1 pick and Jarrid Williams is solid. Plus Scaife may also play there and he was much much better when he played OT.
my grade: B

TE: Mallory is a bad blocker. He’s a very good pass catcher when healthy. Mammarelli played well in his limited snaps. Here’s to Mallory becoming all acc.
My grade: B

WR: it’s tough to disagree but I’m giving a C+. Mostly unproven guys but Rambo was a solid add, Keyshawn flashed as did Restrepo in spring, and we have three very talented freshmen coming. Competition and upside makes it a lot better by default than a D.

rest of offense: accurate and rbs are B plus

de: lost a lot and agree with not recruiting well enough but we do have some solid guys. Just no stars. My grade: c+

dt: harrison hunte, Ford, Miller, Silvera should all be better and HH flashed like he could be all acc eventually last year.
my grade: B

lbs/strikers: need a lot of work and plenty of uncertainty.
Flagg flashed though and Keontra surprised and looked natural in spring.
my grade: c +

cbs: Besides the Ivey hype TS was an excellent get and I like Couch a lot.
My grade (includes new coaching upgrades): B

Overall some weak areas but some areas will be improved due to talent infusion and competition as well as coaching changes. Good enough to be favored in all games except Bama and unc.if we get year 1 diaz then it’s an 8 win team. If the talent infusion and coaching changes and Lashlee having an actual spring matter then 10-11 wins.

Now grade Bama.

exactly. Maybe Bama too much of a reach right now. But these grades only matter could compared to Top 10 teams. Are we talented enough to win the Costal and be on par with a New Years Day opponent.

My grades on last year:
QB- B
RB- B
WR- C-
TE- B-
OT- C+
OG- D+
DE- A
DT- C-
LB- F
CB- C
S- B-
Specialists- A+
This highlights the obvious glaring weakness we have within the interior of the trenches. Harley's performance alone saves this group from the D grade. Linebacker failure has been discussed here ad nauseum so I won't pile on.

Thought it would be interesting to parse the position groups out in relation to conference and nationally.

A = Best in conference, top 10 group nationally
B= Top quarter of conference
C= Average, middle of the pack in conference
D= Obvious weak spot, bottom third in conference
F = Wreck the season bad

2020 2021

Wrs: D C
Qbs: B B+
Rbs: B B+
TE: A- B+
OL: C B-

Corners C- B-
Safeties C- B-
LBs. D. C
DE. A- B
DT. C+ B

Overall, talent is improving as should coaching this year. Offense should be a top 25 unit nationally. Defense, it’s all about LB and safety play because our corners have a definite ceiling. LB and safety play goes from below average to even slightly above average this is probably a borderline top 25 D too
2021 is QB A. We have the 3rd best qb going into 21 season.
Safeties is A for 21. We have a probable 1st rd pick in bolden and everyone at safety on this team is great with high upside. Safety is our strongest position

maybe lb will end up C but right now a D is a stretch without a portal lb

You think King is the best QB in the conference? I never really gave it much thought but that seems high

WRs seem high too, we should be better but Top quarter of ACC seems high.

I like the rest for the most part
UNC has best qb in conference, probably nationally. We arguably have the 3rd best qb nationally though

Best we can say about the team right now athletically before we see the product on the field:

Offense
QB Improved
RB Improved
WR Improved
TE Worsened
Exterior OL Improved
Interior OL Improved

Defense
DE Worsened
DT Improved
Striker Improved
OLB Improved
MLB TBD
Safety Improved
CB Improved

IMO, the above suggests anything less than 9 wins is a failure, 10 is expected. But I'm not sure we're ready to take on any Top 10 team just yet. Maybe 7-10.

No way this team only win 8 games especially with Manny in a contract negotiation year.

Agree except on te. If Mallory is healthy all season then its same. Mallory will be drafted much higher then brevin was

We'll see. But you are underestimating Jordan's impact, IMO. DCs had no idea how to defend that guy. Love his upside. But compared to Bevin, Mallory hasn't proven anything yet.
