We have 7 open scholarships based on Manny’s interviews after ENSD.

I would take at least 1 portal OL, 1 portal WR, and 1 portal CB. 2 Portal OL is good too.

I’ve done the work Miami staff here should be the main portal targets.

WR:

Justin Shorter-6’4- 226-Penn State

Theo Howard-6’0 – 180-UCLA

Tarik Black-6’3 – 215-Michigan

Brian Hightower-6’3-202-Miami

OL:

Kellen Diesch-Texas A&M-Played in all 12 games this season

Devery Hamilton-Stanford-Two time 2ndteam All Pac 12

Henry Hattis-Stanford All Pac 12 honorable mention

Javonne Shepard-Texas-former 4 star recruit class of 2019

CB:
Brendon White-OHIO state -6’2 – 215
Scooby Carter-Alabama 6-0-186
Mannie Neatherly-6’3 -199 LSU

so the real question is why are they leaving?

We will 100% sign kids in February and THEN hit the portal

This is premature

Man i really don't understand why Manny isn't throwing the kitchen sink at Devery Hamilton, Kellen Diesch , Justin Shorter, Tarik Black and begging Hightower to come back. That would completely give our offense some juice. Black and Shorter are big time talent. Even if Shorter has to sit out, 2021 we would have senior more mature Wiggins and Pope, Junior in Payton and a Andre Johnson type of WR in Shorter. Add in our explosive RBS and Senior ready Mallory. Miami would be very tough to beat. Doubt they Manny does anything tho.

If you want to change the culture you do not beg somebody to come back. I hate to lose anybody. I also do not want a cancer in the locker room.

Brian Hightower-6’3-202-Miami - he wouldn't use a counter.
Reed OG doesn't as well.

Hate having to take kids that don't help for more than 2020 but we need better bodies.

All kids aren't going pro. If you've already earned a bachelor degree, I could see transferring to go to a different grad school depending on what major you want to undertake. Or transfer somewhere that has a shot at a championship. (Not Miami)

Rather recruit and develop

I agree. Unfortunately Miami will need at least 2 grad transfers for 2020 or at least 2 guys to come in and play immediately. Cornerback and offensive tackle are 2 injuries away from complete disasters. I see no way around that - freshmen won’t solve it. Also the team is once again missing 12-17 seniors. The team today has 8 seniors.

The big long term problem with the reliance on the transfer portal is sometime between the end of 2020 and the end of 2021 Miami will likely lose 25-40 players (25 juniors today plus transfers and early leavers) off the current roster. This is on a roster today 9 players under the 85 scholarship cap. From today until February 2021 Miami needs to bring in 34-50 players (quite likely more) just to get to 85. The last two classes they have struggled to get 20 freshmen.

The portal is being utilized to patch over recruiting failings but long term it will make the roster even more lopsided. Diaz need to take a full class of 25 freshmen soon.
