UGA write up on Tyrique:

Georgia's 2021 secondary was already going to look a lot different but Tyrique Stevenson added another layer on Monday when he entered the NCAA's transfer portal. Sure, he could always pull his name out and come back but that doesn't happen often. Georgia is now down to just one true starter from it's secondary in Lewis Cine.

Based on the Bulldogs' lineup in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl win over Cincinnati, they've now lost their top four cornerbacks from 2020. Eric Stokes, DJ Daniel, and Tyson Campbell have already decided to enter the NFL Draft. When Stokes and Daniel sat the Peach Bowl out, Campbell and Stevenson got the start.

Stevenson had served as Georgia's primary STAR/nickel defender for most of the year. He played 414 of Georgia's 723 defensive snaps according to Pro Football Focus. That comes out to 57 percent. It's a tough blow. It's a big loss. It's going to put pressure on Kirby Smart and the rest of Georgia's defensive staff to make the most of the transfer portal and get some young, inexperienced players ready to go right away.

Stevenson has not lacked in playing time in his two seasons at Georgia, playing in all 24 games for Georgia, with five starts. He had 13 tackles, one sack, and five pass breakups as a freshman in 2019 and followed it up with 34 tackles, one tackle for loss, and five pass breakups in 2020, along with two punt returns for 37 yards.

He made the biggest play of his young collegiate career in last week's Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl vs No. 8 Cincinnati when the Bearcats were a first down away from icing the game and walking away with a win over Georgia. The Bearcats rolled quarterback Desmond Ridder to the right and he let it fly with Michael Young uncovered. Stevenson, broke off coverage of tight end Josh Whyle and was able to time his hands up in the air to deflect the pass with his back turned, giving Georgia a chance to get the ball back and ultimately win the game.
