Pope can not return another punt

I'm confused as to why @miamicanephins hasn't showed up here with his prolific knowledge as to why Pope should stay returning kicks and isn't soft.

It's really strange to me how this entire thread agrees with what I've been saying since UAB, but he's not here to fight any of you on it.

I'll assume your absence is the result of an epic breastfeeding session.
I know you're limited in your mental cognitive abilities, so I'll type this real slow for you.

Any dude on any internet football forum that calls a D1 starting wide receiver for the Miami Hurricanes soft is a doofus and not to be taken serious. And the fact that you take solace with most of the mouth breathing takes in this thread shows just how insecure you are.

You said to bench him after the first drop, you didn't say to take off the punt team, so stfu.

Yes, if he continues to have problems, he needs to be replaced. But I'll leave that decision as to when to the coaches and not to some keyboard warrior, who I'm statistically 100% certain has never called anybody soft to their face, right girly man?

But I'll bet you he starts against clempson or are you too scared to take this bet like the other bet in which you said Miami would lose to ul.

I don't think he's mentally weak or anything, he's just awkward.
Like somebody already said in here, returning kicks (especially punts) is about comfort. The kid just looked uncomfortable and indecisive. He barely has a clue where he's going when he does return it.

I even have friends (who don't know our players) texting me in the middle of games..."Who's this Pope kid? He's awkward!"

Restrepo is way more savvy and has much more natural confidence as a football player. And he's chomping at the bit to make some plays. That's why he picked up that punt on the hop Saturday night.

Some of you need to learn what a muffed punt is. He muffed the punt against FSU. He fielded the punt against UAB clean and then fumbled when he got hit.

Who has the ultimate decision when it comes to replacing him on punt return? I get you don’t wanna ruin the kids confidence but he’s a liability out there.
Kids are so soft these days , anyway how is a 21 year old a Kid ? He needs to sac up and make plays

I’ve been preaching Restrepo since Uab. He’s natural at returning, which is a big part of it.

I'd even consider our punter back there; he's used to handling those crazy Rugby pitches, and knows how the ball bounces. Plus, he will look for and run to contact.

Every bad sign you look for in a punt returner, Pope has. If this coaching staff continues to trot him out there, they are asking for a disaster. Luckily his two muffed punts haven’t cost us this year (yet). But in a close game, it will. Someone else needs to be returning punts. It’s that simple.
Yep. I wish we could see a certain other #4 back there, but no way the coaches are risking that. 🐔

Too much of a risk with the muffed punts. And I don't think he is much of a threat when he does catch it. He has zero wiggle. Increase the competition during the bye week and hope someone else steps up and takes this job.

#1 trait to look for in a Punt Returner: doesn't fumble
#2 trait to look for in a Punt Returner: doesn't fumble
#3 trait to look for in a Punt Returner: instinctively knows when to let it bounce, fair catch, or run
#4 cajones
#5 explosive

I don't know how explosive Restrepo is, but I think it is clear that he beats Pope on 1-4 in terms of being a punt returner.

Seems like he feels he has to field every punt, even if he's not in an ideal position to make a clean catch.
that was a poor decision to run up about 15 yards in traffic to fair catch a punt in relatively great field position. Was surprised he was out there the next punt. Restrepo did no better trying to scoop one up but at least he made the play and we were up big at the time. Still you have to make good decisions while taking your shots. Can't afford a botched punt return against Clemson.

I can't help but wonder if he's being coached to field the punt at all costs IOT save field position? It's obvious he's not 100% comfortable back there and I'm not bashing the kid. But even the punt when Couch collided with him, he seemed like he was in a rush to field the punt.

You think that was a good decision by X tho..I get he wants to make a play. But if Pope makes that same sort of decision vs Clemson in 2 weeks ppl will shake they heads. Popes 2 mishaps came from tryna do too much. Vs UAB tryna make a play fumbles. Vs FSU tries to save FP in traffic on a tough one, muffs one he should let bounce. Rn we don’t have a Braxt, or KJ. Imo u keep Pope back there. I don’t believe in playing musical chairs at that spot unless u have sure fire heady vet to replace him. Is X ready for that vs Clem..idk about that. If I’m manny I wouldn’t make that move yet

Agree. However I was a little indifferent on the punt pick-up by X. If Pope does that, he likely gets blasted for it. It was an awkward kick, game was in hand, he was giving up at most another 5 yards? Just let that dog lie. For me, if opposing team is punting anywhere passed their own 40, put back the guy with the most sure hands. Own 40 and further, put back a playmaker.
