Like others have said, make fun of Golden's Defense but the guy has been upstanding when it comes to academics. He certainly didn't mean it that way, bad choice of words, yeah. You man up and call Al Golden and ask him to clarify first, which I would put money on it that he did not.

Last time I checked, he's the football coach. Now, if the English teacher's first priority was football, we'd have a problem. If Golden didn't care about academics, we'd have a problem. He does care about them, deeply. What he said was taken and twisted to make it sound as if he doesn't care about work in the classroom. It's just not true. Again, had he said something like, "We'd be a lot better if my football players didn't have to attend classes. I wish the professors would just let them cheat so they didn't have to work there." Yeah, that would be a story. This, on the other hand, is NOT.

What an *******... If the almighty Mr Schmitt has a problem then professional courtesy would've been the best route. Not to run to the local newspaper.

Don't shoot the messenger. It's been a constant theme with this administration that scholastics are more important that sports. Graduation rates, higher admission standards, the rooster/student-athlete change. Hopefully Al addresses this and apologizes to this brave faculty member.

Yes, players having problems with missing an assignment, missing class (not necessarily unexcused or excused) and having to make that up by missing practice (and having a coach listen to the excuse of missing assignment/class, etc...) can be distracting...let's face it. The douche bag is probably upset with this U for for some reason (unknown) and likely wants to apply for a job elsewhere where he can get more work, but he wants the notoriety to say that he wants to move to greener pastures coz he wants to "foster educating the bright minds of today at an environment that nurtures academics not just gladiators' spectacle"

The people in this thread that are trashing the whistle-blowing faculty member obviously do not have UM degrees and have no stake in whether they get tarnished or not.

Whistle blower? No he's no whistle blower. He took a comment that AL made to the media and ran with it. It's not like he uncovered something Al said in private and then brought it to everyone's attention.

Let's ask this....did he speak to AL personally about his comment and give him a chance to clarify before running to the herald? Probably not....

You think Al is dumb, he knows how much of a priority APR scores and education are to Donna, now way he would publicly come out and say that.



It seems like the chair is finally heating up, and Al is pulling out all the stops to win at all costs. This isnt what Miami football is about.
