Players with the most to prove in 2020

I wouldn't say these guys necessarily have the most to prove, but the guys I want to see step up & show something:

Mark Pope - yeah I know, a lot of people on the board dislikes the kid, but he's been putting in a crazy amount of work this offseason, literally every single day since January he's been working with Speed & WR's coaches (mainly Th3 Lab/Chris Scott) on perfecting his route running & improving his hands. Playing in this new Air Raid passing style uptempo offense will benefit him the most IMO & he's set break out this year. He's probably the most doubted & hated on, but I'm certain he's going to kill it this year (if there is a season lol).

OL - The entire OL needs to prove they're not one of the worst lines in Division-1 Football, tall task, but they have to prove they can do the bare minimum basics of actually holding a block for 3 seconds & not giving up 51 sacks in a season.

DJ Ivey - He was the worst in the secondary last year, he gave up the most yards & had the most completions caught on him at 24 out of 41 targets with 349yds & multiple TD's. He also got beat routinely on plays where if the QB had simply made a good pass would've ended up as a big gain or TD. His footwork & overall technique needs major work, he's been working this offseason on it, so hopefully he improves, but until I see it on the field he will still be a liability in coverage as the CB2. Need a big big step up season from Ivey.

LB group - Agree with you 100% on McCloud D$. I'm not all that high on him, but hopefully a position change & being a 5th year senior will be good enough to make him a solid Mike LB for us.

But also the rest of the LB group needs to step up major. I'm higher on Brooks than anybody, I also love Huff's upside, but Huff has missed a ton of time being that he was a late fall add last year & was an academic redshirt. Which means he's missed all of Spring last year, all summer workouts & didn't get in Fall camp until about a couple days before the UF game. With the C-19 shutdown he's still missing valuable reps. I believe he'll be a good player for us, but he's going to need time to adjust & learn the Defense in full.

Also need to see a healthy LB group for once. Guys like BJ Jennings, Patrick Joyner & the rest need to get healthy & start contributing, can't sustain a full season having so many injured LB's, we need depth with how young & inexperienced we'll be at LB, can't afford to have Ragu out there playing meaningful snaps, I hope those guys finally get fully healthy & put it together.

Striker - Frierson & Keontra Smith; I actually liked how Gil played last year & can't wait to see Keontra get an opportunity to show his skills on the field, I think he's going to be a very good in coverage in this defense. I think athletically the two of them will be a very good Hybrid/Nickel pairing at Striker, probably won't have the IQ that Finley had at that spot, but will make up for it with Ball skills & down the field coverage.

Jeremiah Payton - Obviously, he was a TF who was Redshirted last year so there wasn't anything he could prove & I'm not arguing he has the most to prove, he's just a kid I have high expectations for & think he will be great in this offense once given the opportunity.

Gilbert Frierson is an excellent, underrated, answer. He got lots of burn last year, but was still a backup. We'll know pretty quick now that he's in line for the starting spot at Striker if he's ready to be an every down guy at that position, which has a lot of responsibility and can easily end up in the spotlight. He's a great athlete, but that is a challenging position to play. He's either going to step up, or lose the job. I hope he wins it and locks down the starting role and redefines the position a little bit.

Underrated answer but Brevin Jordan . He has all world ability and can make a real impact. He’s as vital as more than any player on this roster not named greg Rousseau. We need him to have a completely healthy season because his presence is immense in terms of overall productivity on the offense: The offense has went to sh*t the last 2 years when he’s missed games

I want Jordan Miller to prove he can play 20 snaps a game. If he can, look the heck out. I know I am not the only one that sees him destroying everything in front of him when he's in. Of course, every time he did, someone else got the credit from the brain dead announcers.

QB King: left UH amid controversy after not performing terribly well in 2019.

RB Harris: has flashed but can he follow in the footsteps of Homer and Dallas as "the guy"

WR Harley: with Thomas gone and Pope looking like a bust, he must become a big play threat.

TE Jordan: can he stay healthy?

OL Donaldson: will he get healthy, get in shape, and regain his starting spot?

DL Ford: the staff hyped him up but the wrist injury may have slowed his progress.

LB McCloud: he must become a leader and better tackler.

DB Bolden: has faced several hurdles and has not played much as he enters his 4th season.

What ever happened to Cleveland Reed? I know Richt loved him and if I remember he was pretty highly recruited. Obviously he tried to transfer out last year but is just that bad?
I don't know four shoo but I herd Reed had a beef with the POS Miami had coaching the Oline last year. Reed skrong. He should bee able to be a solid player at Miami at some point.

Reed was as touted as Donaldson coming out. Looked super high quality in the HS All Star game along with Scaife. Best two OL I’m that game.

But he clearly has a weight and conditioning problem like Donaldson, and hasn’t done anything yet.

Boom or bust kid. Hope he booms this season with the new coaches and system. It would solve a ton of our issues if we could count on him in the interior.

Reed wasn’t as touted as navaughn Donaldson who was a top 75 overall player(high 4star) where as reed was the #260 player in the country still a solid 4 star.

Cleveland reed has FAR from a weight and conditioning problem like the one navaughn Donaldson has. Reed is in great shape actually. I expected reed to be behind a little as he didn’t practice in pads during the fall season so that’s fine and not reading anything into that

Sometimes players makes jumps. The slot receiver thrives in this spread offense so not really surprised. Regardless it looks like all of the top receivers showed something that week

Certainly they do. And we have evidence at this very school of kids producing at a higher clip as seniors than ever before (Berrios, Braxton...Hankerson, Leonard to name a couple)

That being said, my point remains. If the kid on the opposing team who scares me most as a DC is Mike Harley, I’m not having problems sleeping the week of that game.

I would add Pope, Harris, Frierson and Ivey. I have my money on Pope and Harris taking the next step.

Jahfari Harvey is another name I thought of adding.

It'll probably be difficult to get too many snaps with Rousseau, Roche & Phillips ahead of him, but I think he can be a good rotational rusher when he gets the chance.
I really want Harvey to eat! I ain't gonna lie L. Watching him in the bowl game. He looked a little lost out there. I don't know I was ****ed so my judgment may have been clouded.

If Harley is our best receiver, we are ***ked
People I’m sure were saying the same about berrios yet he balled his senior year and was the best receiver that specific season 🤷🏾‍♂️, Harley showed good progression as a junior. Maybe he takes another jump

It was literally his first game starting ever, as a TRUE FRESHMAN.

Give'em a little time homie, he'll be fine.

I truly appreciate how Berrios did and Harley does represent Miami and the work they put in but if Harley is our #1 receiver, we are done. It’s like saying Daryl Jones going to carry the offense.

I’m not penciling anyone anywhere just yet. Just because he’s the most experienced/productive out of the group so far returning doesn’t mean he will be the #1 guy: we will see

Most of y’all bashing pope expectations were way too high. He also played for a terrible OC. For the people comparing Pope and Payton. Y’all trippin. There completely different WR’s. Y’all going to learn this year tho if he stays healthy.
