Players returning for week 2

Gametape didn’t show that. Bethune targeted him specifically the first series, particularly in the pass game.

maybe second half. I haven’t gotten through the entire game yet
They do jetsweep motion on one play & hit the TE in the flats & he is absolutely lost & looks like he’s running with cinder blocks on. Wait til you see it. You’ll want to vomit.

when you post, can you put the defensive call sheet next to your review, along with coach strong's grades? that way we can compare.

And Flaggs
you're right.

mario and coach steele made him one of the defensive players of the game just to make him feel good about himself. that's kind of their M.O.

not certain, but i think if you win the award, mario gives you a day off from practice and a coupon for a complementary pedicure

Your front running post is equal to Flagg’s play at MLB and that same Coach can’t wait until Wes learns that play book so he can bench the fake number 11 and all he’s family members that post here

Coach Cristobal mentioned in His monday presser that LT Zion Nelson & RB Jaylan Knighton will be back against southern miss and both are expected to PLAY.

As well as: L Taylor, J Clarke & Isaiah Horton (Suspended) all will be good to go for week 2.

*Also applauded OL Anez Cooper for his play and said he expects him to “be a great one” and to contribute a lot this season.

*also noted that he was disappointed with the defense for the most part Saturday. Said what/how they practiced didn’t translate to the field at times and is looking to clean that up.

*Very excited for LB W Bissainthee, said they are hurrying to get him to look the playbook/what to do because they want/need him on the field.

Really do expect a BIG jump in execution this week. Zion/rooster & Horton being back for the O is great for OL/RB depth as well as competition at wide receiver.

*these reporters man…you can tell Mario is already tired of some of them.
Agree with everything coach said. So happy I don't have to coach this team anymore.

I enjoy how defensive some people get. Does pff have the call sheets as well? Do you? If not why should I care about your opinion or pff’s? This is a forum to express opinions no? I’m not taking personal shots, I’m simply giving my opinion on what I saw on tape.

I go by my eyes. I see a crossing route in front of him and him not riding that crosser into the next zone and then being late to chase for an easy first down. I don’t care what the call sheet was for that. The first series they went at his zone or his side multiple times. He was late and/or didn’t have speed to limit those gains.

Corey didn’t play as bad as what this board said but coach strong did get on to him.
And I’m not saying he was awful either. I simply responded to him being one of the highest graded when I was not seeing that live or in the rewatch I started to focus on certain things. I saw he was credited with 2 TFLs, so maybe those boosted his grade Vs others who didn’t?

How do you feel Corey can best utilized?
He has to play next to a freak on early downs. Unfortunate but true. Chase smith would make him look a lot better simply based off of how linebackers player TOGETHER. He’s a good run blitzer and he’s good at recognition you just can’t have him out there with another guy who won’t read keys too

Maybe. I’m not sure how it’s graded exactly

and i wasn't taking a shot at you either.

i was just making the point about grading tape. yes, of course, everyone can share their opinion.

but having been there, i will say: it's difficult to be sure of grading unless you absolutely understand the call and the assignment/technique associated with it. you can get a general idea of how a player is doing, but that has limitations unless you're sitting there in the film room, with the player, the coach, and the GA with his copy of the call sheet. which is why i look at sources like PFF with a rather jaded eye. they are good at what they do, but cannot possibly know as much as they pretend to know. if the coach is grading a lot higher than what your (or my) eyes are seeing, that should give a lot of pause, and tell us that what we're seeing might not be what is actually happening.

example from last year: canes were running a smash route to the closed hash. the no. 2 mistakenly chokes off his route, instead of opening to the corner, (and TVD makes the throw and completes it anyways). i thought: "great throw and adjustment on the fly by TVD, but the WR messed up." bad play on the no. 2's part. that's a "minus" on the grading sheet. what i found out a couple of weeks later is that the WR was actually coached to choke off the route when he sees a certain look in that situation. (it was not what i thought was sound, but that's not important). the point is, my knowledge of what i think should have been done, and what i was coached, was not what the play call required. so, from that sense, i was wrong, and the player and coach were right.

can i tell if something is really banged up and unsound? sure. like d'onofrio's goal line defense, or manny's inside run fits, as examples. but scouting is not the same as grading, and there's a lot you have to deduce if you're going to be relying just on tape.

the lesson i suppose, is that from the outside looking in, you can only trust what you see up to a point.

anyway, that's just my opinion but is suspect others like @Liberty City El and @Coach Macho might agree.
