Pistol Run Game…

[The U is back to work]

Have we been running out of the pistol all season? Or is this a newer wrinkle? I saw that in the pistol today we were devastatingly good…is our Run Game always out of the pistol?

fletcher averaged 12.5 ypc out of the pistol today... absolutely dominated out of that formation today and kept the defense completely off balance...

i think he had 12 carries for 150 or so...

What helped was on early downs, they would play zone. We would motion a WR into the box and were able to get +1 advantage in the run game.

First carry I was like burn the game plan.. we need to lean on Fletcher.. he could of ran for 250 easy..

I wish I could get like PFF stats specifically out of pistol for our run game the last 2 seasons. I swear the ypa may legit be a full yard higher

I may go through all 3 games this week and see how often we’re in pistol/what the stats look like, because either I’m insane and have selective memory or we’re doing ourselves a massive disservice by not deploying it more frequently.

Just gonna edit this to not bump/clutter the thread.

Stanford we were in pistol 7 plays (stopped once backups came in). More than I thought, results more varied than I remembered.

27 yards on designed runs on 6 carries (4.5ypc). Idk that I’d personally include the 3rd and inches where we went with a diamond set and Stanford put everyone in the box, if you strip that it’s 25 on 5 (5ypc)

Either way, it was above our average ypc in that game.
