Piecing together Richt's staff (with updates)

I'm interested to see if Rocker comes with Richt. Some UGA fans seem to think he's staying. Richt hired him, but he's from Atlanta, so he may want to stay in Athens.

After the soft mentality Golden was drilling into the players and coaches heads, and comments from guys like Brown and Scott, I don't want to retain a single member of the staff.

In my mind, every one of them has been tainted by working under Al. They carry that Golden gene in them now and at any moment they could tell the media 8 wins is good at Miami now because things have changed, or they might bring out some small vanilla cones to their unit during a heated scrimmage.

I'm in favor of burning this thing to the ground. Firing squad on the whole group and start fresh.

only guy i'd really like to keep is KB. otherwise i think you are spot on

I certainly lean more to the side of firing everyone as opposed to keeping everybody, but there's certainly some counter arguments to be made here:

1. Richt's teams at UGA did not meet national championship expectations. Note, there were certainly capable teams of winning the national championship, but just missed out. On that account, you can't just blindly bring in the same coaches and say, "Well, good enough for SEC, will dominate in the ACC." You need new blood and guys performing and promoting themselves to job upgrades if you're going to be elite.

2. With that in mind, you also don't need to just fire the entire staff because the boss was terrible. Most of us (if not all) have been in work environments where we can clearly recognize that certain employees are far more valuable than their managers. All you need to do is watch the YouTube Recruiting Assessment video with Hurlie Brown and you know immediately that he has a standard/expectation/assessment ability for the University of Miami that several of the other guys do not have. I'm not saying that means Brown deserves to stay - just an example of a guy that might be worth keeping here.

3. Specific to the team and this coaching staff, I'm a big fan of Tracy Rocker. That would be a great addition to our staff not only in recruiting, but also coaching ability. If we're talking about former Canes and coaching, I'd certainly inquire as to Curtis Johnson returning in the WR capacity and Michael Barrow returning as a LB coach.

Hurlie brown, ice harris, and larry scott if we base it off recruiting and who he has been seen with looks like they are safe

Thats just basing it off that

I agree with this. In fact, I think you want to keep at a minimum 1 or 2 guys just to provide some continuity. No matter how bad the previous staff was, they are going to have valuable knowledge on player tendencies/motivations, etc, as well as institutional knowledge (e.g. who to talk to in the administration if you need to squeeze a kid with grade issues into the class). You don't want to lose that knowledge completely.

I think keeping one guy from each side of the ball (say, Hurlie and Larry Scott) would make sense in this regard.

I'm hoping that's what Richt is doing in bringing back Kehoe (which is rumored). He knows Miami better than anyone & would help make the transition smoother. Hopefully it would be a temporary deal, allowing both sides to exit the relationship on good terms.

1:35 in, I don't spend time daily with Hurlie but that's some soft comments right there. Sounds just like Golden.

I don't think he's been mentioned, but I think Pete Kwiatowski would be a great DC here. He's done great at Washington, and did well at Boise too.

What has Hurley Brown down to justify keeping. I am sure we can so fine without his recruiting.

These guys traveling with Richt IS NOT an indication that they are staying on staff. He needs to visit these recruits with current members of the staff. I doubt he would go out by himself. Might as well bring the guys along that have already been talking to them. Plus CMAR needs a ride.

I don't envy Richt. He probably has a ton of people in his ear and I don't doubt some of the coaches are trying to convince the recruits to suggest they stay on.

I love Hurlie, he's a Cane all the way. But he obviously didn't learn under the best coaches and those comments concern me. I want a guy who is not happy with 9 wins. And like I said we don't see his every day worth ethic but I just have a feeling most of our staff is Goldenized.

TheUgadawg: According to some media outlets in Miami, UGA DL Coach Tracy Rocker could be headed to Coral Gables to join Mark Richt.

Hurlie got Goldenized right away. This is the same dude who was spitting all that soft **** about 9 wins being a great accomplishment and that UM should be happy with 9 wins. He's become a devout loser unfortunately. Hope he gets the knife from Richt.
